Here's an article from Sep 2015, dad Saren is a doctor and was known for his humanitarian work...

Defence Minister Jason Kenney also took to Twitter to laud Azer as a man “doing tremendous work” with Canada’s Kurdish community helping Iraqi refugees.

But today, Azer is a man on the run, sought by the RCMP for the alleged abduction of his children. Interpol has published the photos and details about the Canadian children, listing them as missing.

This is an older article, too.

Canadian mom Alison Azer locates missing children in Middle East, family confirms
International search was launched after 4 children failed to return from trip to Europe with father

"I can confirm that Alison now knows the location of the children," Azer's niece Kate Jeffery told CBC News Tuesday morning.

"That is in large part to the social media efforts and also to a news report shot in Canada and broadcast in the region."

"We know where they are, but they are not with Alison yet. We are still waiting to get them home and get them into Alison's arms, " she said. "This is a very important first step."

While the family is not revealing exactly where the children are, Jeffery says diplomatic efforts by the Canadian government and Kurdish officials are now underway to recover them, with her ex-husband allegedly refusing to release them.

Four Mahmudi-Azer children were born in Canada: Sharvahn Delahn (August 3, 2004), Rojevahn Beritan (June 30, 2006), Dersim Baran (August 22, 2008), Meitan Serbast (June 1, 2012).

Saren Azer is an Iranian Kurd who has lived in Canada since 1994. He is a medical doctor who has done humanitarian work in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq annually since 2007. Alison Azer supported Saren’s efforts to provide medical attention to refugees.

In April 2014, Alison Azer was granted shared custody of the children by the provincial family court in British Columbia (Supreme Court of British Columbia).

This order granted Alison Azer (née: Jeffrey) full control over her four children’s passports to protect them from being taken out of Canada without her permission.

The B.C. Court subsequently granted a further order providing Saren Azer permission to travel to Paris and Germany with the children for a vacation in August 2015 provided he contacted Alison every 48 hours through the duration of the trip and that he return the Children home to Comox, BC on August 22, 2015.

Saren Azer failed to return to British Columbia by August 22, 2015, an action in direct violation of the court order.

On August 21, 2015, Alison Azer was notified by the RCMP that her four children had been abducted by their father and her ex-husband Saren Azer.

Saren and the children were in Paris, France from August 6-11, 2015. It is understood they traveled by train to the Dusseldorf/Troisdorf region of Germany. They were seen in Cologne, Germany on August 13, 2015.

Saren and the children flew into the Sulaymaniyah airport in Northern Iraq on August 15, 2015. For over three months, this was the last confirmed sighting.

As of November 30, 2015, Alison is aware of the location of her children. However, they are still in danger in an actively volatile region, and Saren is refusing to release them.

B.C. Courts have granted Alison Azer interim sole custody of the children and control of their passports.

On August 24th, 2015, Comox Valley RCMP obtained a Canada Wide Warrant of Arrest for Salahaddin Mahmudi-Azer (Saren), in relation to charges of ‘Abduction in Contravention of a Custody Order’, contrary to Section 282 of the Criminal Code of Canada. Click here to view the RCMP press release.
RCMP has publicly issued a Red Notice (highest level) on Interpol for Saren’s arrest. Click here to view the INTERPOL Alert.

Best article written to date with detailed information about the situation of the children missing, feared in a war zone ...

‘There are four Canadian kids being held captive in a war zone and no one seems to be doing anything about it’

... "On Aug. 17, an RCMP officer called Alison to say Saren’s siblings assured him nothing was wrong. The children would be back in Canada as scheduled four days later.

Instead, at 5 a.m. on the day the children were due home, an RCMP officer knocked on Alison’s door; the children had not boarded a return flight from Europe.

Alison’s lawyer was in court within hours and a judge granted her sole custody and guardianship of the kids. But by then all she could do was wait — and beg for information.

She posted her story on social media, and challenged Foster on Facebook about what Alison felt was her lack of action on the trip. Foster said that as soon as she learned the children were missing she notified German police and the Canadian embassy. But “with regard to the safety of the children, you know as well as I do,” she added, “that they are with their father who loves them with a depth and passion that is beyond the understanding of most Westerners.”

Alison is a former classmate of mine. I have followed her story and have no idea why I didn't bring it to the attention of this page. There has been a large letter writing campaign to our government to help bring these children home. Now that bombing has started in the Qandli Mountain range, which is within miles of where the children are thought to be in hiding, the push is much needed. Any word spread to the world about these four children is greatly appreciated. If you would like to write a letter to show your support to our government, the information is available at:

RIGHT HON. PRIME MINISTER JUSTIN TRUDEAU:

Thank you for your continued support. With your help, WE WILL BRING OUR CHILDREN HOME!

Thanks for bringing this to our attention, especially since it appears to have reached a critical point at the moment!

I thought the story sounded familiar. Here is another thread started recently for them: http://www.websleuths.com/forums/sh...ox-Valley-BC-4-Aug-2015&highlight=Azer+Canada

I'll alert so we can get them merged :) I'm off to read all of your links CAPI and hopefully will be able to do my (small) part to help.

Why would the dad have taken them there (even if they are Iraqi nationals)?

In my opinion ...
From reading the articles and following the story, he wanted the children to live his nationality and customs in their Canadian home and country. I believe this would deny them and alienate them from the current world and their friends because they wouldn't be able to be involved. Only the father knows the correct answer to this, but it's obvious he didn't want them with their mother, nor did he want to be in Canada any longer. It seems he's went to great lengths and had planned to do this, 7 months ago. It's heartbreaking.

This is tragic! She may never see her children again! Canada must intervene.

Canadian mom Alison Azer fears abducted kids in Iraq with their dad

Guests: Alison Azer

AMT: We are starting today with a story that is a horror for any parent to imagine. Alison Azer has not seen her four children in seven months. She believes she knows where they are, but it is a dangerous war zone in northern Iraq. They are believed to be there with their father Dr. Saren Azer. He was once known as a respected physician and humanitarian in Canada after he emigrated here from Iran more than two decades ago. From then until now, he has been a passionate advocate for the cause of his fellow Kurds. But now he stands accused of abducting their children after taking them on a trip to Europe last summer and failing to return. Alison Azer is working hard for their return, though, meeting with Kurdish authorities in Washington, DC this week. And that's where we have reached her. Hello.

ALISON AZER: Hello.

AMT: Alison, tell me about your children.

ALISON AZER: I've got four incredible kids. I've got-- The older two are girls. Sharvahn, she’s 11 and a half and Rojevahn, she’ll be 10 in June. Dersim and Mietan are my sons. Dersim is seven and a half. Last time I saw him he was just six with a real wiggly front tooth. And my little guy, Mietan, he'll turn four on June 1st. I mean, I've missed a real big chunk of that boy's life.

AMT: Tell me about the last time you saw them.

ALISON AZER: We were driving to the handover to the nanny and kids were pretty upset. My nine-year-old in particular, she had spent much of the night before crying, just telling me how uncomfortable she felt about the trip and how worried she was that her dad might take her somewhere, that she just would never see me again. So, you know, I tried to inject a bit of levity and I passed the cellphone around and asked the kids to each leave me a message and tell me a joke, which they did, and I have listened to those messages over and over and over again.

AMT: Hmm. What was your life like in the lead up to that trip to the handover?

There are a few vigils planned across Canada tomorrow for these children.

I can't believe this story has not got more media attention.
