I need to catch up because I missed something. I look up his name but am not sure why we are discussing him. Any links or back story??
Try to prepare your brain for this part...Charles Severance is accused of killing three people in Alexandria over 11 years. He finally spoke in court on Tuesday, giving a quirky history lesson and calling for charges against him to be dismissed. (Jabin Botsford/The Washington Post)

Charles Severance, accused of three Alexandria slayings over 11 years, finally spoke in court Tuesday, giving the judge a quirky history lesson and calling for the dismissal of charges against him.
PS... Neither Alexandria, nor Washington DC, are anywhere near the Ohio (River) valley....The 55-year-old amateur historian then segued into a four-minute history of that right, which he said stemmed from losses in a 1791 war against the Indians in the Ohio Valley.
Attorneys for Severance presented their case over four days trying to paint for jurors a picture of a man who they say is undeniably eccentric but not guilty of murder. They hinged their case largely on the testimony of relatives and friends all of whom described Severances unusual behavior and of a forensic psychologist who said Severance suffered from personality disorder with mixed paranoid and schizotypal features.
A jury handed convicted serial killer Charles Severance three life sentences Monday for the murders of three prominent Alexandria, Virginia, residents, and recommended he serve an additional 48 years in prison and pay $400,000 in fines.
All three victims were fatally shot in their own homes over the course of a more than a decade.
Earlier Monday, Severance, 55, was found guilty of all 10 charges against him, including the capital murders of Ruthanne Lodato and Ron Kirby, and the first-degree murder of Nancy Dunning.
Prosecutors said Severance harbored a grudge against who he perceived to be the city's elite after losing a custody battle over his son. He has a history of erratic behavior and also ran for mayor there twice.
A man in custody in connection with an investigation into a series of high-profile murders in Alexandria, Va., apparently owns a website that rails against mental health treatment and lambasts an Alexandria court that banned him from having contact with his son.
[His] site reads:
Imagine yourself, an eccentric psychopath, being diagnosed with schizophrenia and having the opportunity to submit to toxic lifetime maintenance medication every day for the rest of your life. Or how about sending someone you just met into an insane asylum because you as a licensed alienist have legitimate authority to clinically diagnose and scientifically influence judgment. These and many other fascinating scenarios, including "the care of Lunticks" await everyone who endeavors to journey into the hideous realm of Mental Disorder.
The discussion started in the Nicole Lovell thread, where it does NOT belong. Any discussion of Severance should take place in this thread.I need to catch up because I missed something. I look up his name but am not sure why we are discussing him. Any links or back story??

VIRGINIA COURT OF APPEALS 3-JUDGE PANEL HEARD ARGUMENTS FROM ATTORNEYS ON 03.15.2017
Attorney for Charles Severance attempts to have his conviction thrown out of court.
Citing that Severance was never proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt; there is nothing linking him to the 3 murders since the murder weapon (.22 caliber revolver) was never found; and that since the murder of Martha Dunning occurred in 2003, Severance should not have been tried for that murder at same time he was tried for the other two murders [(Kirby murdered in 2013 and Lodato murdered in 2014)].
They tribunal will weigh arguments of both sides and render a decision within one to three months.
(NLT: June 19, 2017, by my calculations).
