VA VA - Charles Severance

I need to catch up because I missed something. I look up his name but am not sure why we are discussing him. Any links or back story??

I found a few stories about this fellow. He apparently killed a few people in the time of a decade or so.
And he's creepy looking.
It also sounds like he might be just a bit "touched in the head," for lack of a better term. And that's also putting it pretty lightly.

Charles Severance, accused of three Alexandria slayings over 11 years, finally spoke in court Tuesday, giving the judge a quirky history lesson and calling for the dismissal of charges against him.
Try to prepare your brain for this part...
...The 55-year-old amateur historian then segued into a four-minute history of that right, which he said stemmed from losses in a 1791 war against the Indians in the Ohio Valley.
PS... Neither Alexandria, nor Washington DC, are anywhere near the Ohio (River) valley.
Unless you'd consider St Louis "close" to Chicago since they're both kinda/sorta in the Midwest.
Attorneys for Severance presented their case over four days — trying to paint for jurors a picture of a man who they say is undeniably eccentric but not guilty of murder. They hinged their case largely on the testimony of relatives and friends — all of whom described Severance’s unusual behavior — and of a forensic psychologist who said Severance suffered from personality disorder with mixed paranoid and schizotypal features.

Charles Severance Receives Three Life Sentences in Triple-Murder Trial
NBC4
Washington, DC
11/2/2015
A jury handed convicted serial killer Charles Severance three life sentences Monday for the murders of three prominent Alexandria, Virginia, residents, and recommended he serve an additional 48 years in prison and pay $400,000 in fines.

All three victims were fatally shot in their own homes over the course of a more than a decade.

Earlier Monday, Severance, 55, was found guilty of all 10 charges against him, including the capital murders of Ruthanne Lodato and Ron Kirby, and the first-degree murder of Nancy Dunning.
Prosecutors said Severance harbored a grudge against who he perceived to be the city's elite after losing a custody battle over his son. He has a history of erratic behavior and also ran for mayor there twice.

Man in Custody in Investigation of Alexandria Murders Owned 'Mental Disorder' Website
NBC4
Washington, DC

A man in custody in connection with an investigation into a series of high-profile murders in Alexandria, Va., apparently owns a website that rails against mental health treatment and lambasts an Alexandria court that banned him from having contact with his son.
[His] site reads:
Imagine yourself, an eccentric psychopath, being diagnosed with schizophrenia and having the opportunity to submit to toxic lifetime maintenance medication every day for the rest of your life. Or how about sending someone you just met into an insane asylum because you as a licensed alienist have legitimate authority to clinically diagnose and scientifically influence judgment. These and many other fascinating scenarios, including "the care of Lunticks" await everyone who endeavors to journey into the hideous realm of Mental Disorder.

The discussion started in the Nicole Lovell thread, where it does NOT belong. Any discussion of Severance should take place in this thread.

I don't want to sound dumb, but what was the connection between Lovell/Severance?
That her killer and Severance both did track & field stuff?

I tried to look at the link, but I'd already used up all of my "freebie" views on the website linked on Novell's thread. But I really can't envision how anything relating to some "Indian massacre" in the 18th Century would relate to him killing any of the people he killed.

Could somebody that can view the story in question please elaborate?

Try to explain a bit without breaking any rules: There is a guy, initials AM, who was visible in the media during Severance's trial, seeming somewhat supportive of Severance's innocence. He apparently was a cellmate of Severance at some point. AM also has come forward in the media with some information that could be interpreted to be in support of David Eisenhauer, one of the two arrested in Nicole Lovell's death. AM is also a runner and that seems to be one way, at least, he is acquainted with Eisenhauer.

Anyone else read that WDBJ7 Roanoke just blew the cover with regards to the fact that he is also being investigated for those decade old serial killings down in Daytona Beach? A Radio Shack kids Digital Camera found in his possession may also match the missing Radio Shack kids Digital Camera from Heidi Childs of Virginia Tech.

VIRGINIA COURT OF APPEALS 3-JUDGE PANEL HEARD ARGUMENTS FROM ATTORNEYS ON 03.15.2017

Attorney for Charles Severance attempts to have his conviction thrown out of court.
Citing that Severance was never proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt; there is nothing linking him to the 3 murders since the murder weapon (.22 caliber revolver) was never found; and that since the murder of Martha Dunning occurred in 2003, Severance should not have been tried for that murder at same time he was tried for the other two murders [(Kirby murdered in 2013 and Lodato murdered in 2014)].

They tribunal will weigh arguments of both sides and render a decision within one to three months.

(NLT: June 19, 2017, by my calculations).

Responding to my own post. The 2003 murder victim's name was "Nancy" Dunning, not Martha. (SMH! Don't know where I got that. Could be she had a sister named Martha.)

"The tribunal" -- not "they" tribunal. (Sheesh -- alexwood -- what an idiot!)

**BREAKING**

This just in from VA Commonwealth Attorney Bryan Porter, and it is HUGE. Porter states that Minnesota and the State of New York are actively searching for Severance related to several cases from 2006-2011.

Note that Severance went missing from 2006-2011 and traveled the country staying in cheap motels, authorities have obtained over 1000 postcards sent to his parents in that time frame, which the FBI has used as timestamps

Authorities also searching for a .380 weapon as police in Santa Monica have also drawn interest to a series of murders he may have participated in out there in 2006. Most of the victims were candidates involved in small-time elections.

Evidence gathered was from various postcards sent to his parents, statements from his MentalDisorder.com website, hotel receipts, and surveillance stills of his 1999 red Ford Escort station wagon.

City officials have recovered several items, text messages, flip phones, and letters in the demolishing of the late Eric Barncord's property in Cumberland MD. Barncord was the back alley neighbor and best friend of Charles Severance.

Digging still underway. Detectives not turning down the reopening of the case. Barncord suspected to be the man on the other end of the phone call from the Target store and awaiting at or near the residence on Mt Ida Ave that morning.
