A woman's headless torso found in Los Angeles appears to be related to two plastic bags of body parts found in Pico Rivera, Calif., authorities said.

"He comes up to us and says, 'Dude, those are legs,' " Gudino told KABC-TV.

So, Gudino said, he got out of the vehicle and looked.

"Sure enough, there are two legs," he said.

County officials worked to identify the body parts.

The torso, wrapped in garbage bags, was found Monday in a trash receptacle at a Los Angeles Fire Department maintenance facility, the Los Angeles Times reported.

Los Angeles County (Calif.) Sheriff's Police said it would take a couple days to determine if the torso is related to body parts found Friday by a motorist in Pico Rivera.

The discovery of body parts found in two garbage bags on a city street was being investigated by homicide detectives, officials said Sunday.

The body parts were found Friday night about 10 p.m. in this suburb about 12 miles southeast of downtown Los Angeles, said sheriff's Deputy Oscar Butao.

Coroners have determined that a headless torso discovered in Lincoln Heights and bagged body parts found three days earlier in Pico Rivera are from the same corpse, officials said Tuesday.

"It appears the parts do match," said Capt. Edward Winter of the Los Angeles County coroner's office. "We are doing further tests."

The woman's torso and an arm were found Monday in a trash bin at a Los Angeles Fire Department maintenance facility on Avenue 19.

Two trash bags with other parts were found Friday in Pico Rivera.

The Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department is investigating the discovery as a homicide.

I'm not sure if there is a thread for the this subject yet...

Residents in Lincoln Heights are afraid a serial killer may be targeting people from their neighborhood, after a 22-year-old mother was found dead near a freeway on-ramp in Silver Lake.

Bree'Anna Guzman, 22, disappeared Dec. 26 while walking to a nearby pharmacy. Her body was found Thursday near the 2 Freeway.

Police found the body of 17-year-old Michelle Lozano on April near the 5 Freeway.

Good job, Deeds! I hope LE is taking all of this into consideration as well! Seems very likely to me that there's a SK in the area!

This was on HLN-JVM show last night. A white van was seen in area and there was a witness on the show who saw this van driving slow and sped off as the witness approached the van. There was a composite sketch done on a possible subject by a local not by LE.

There was also another attempted kidnapping but the girl got away. Supposedly she was screaming so loud he let her go. The subject yelled to her "They will be back for her."

- Undocumented community in Lincoln Heights not reporting Abductions and attempt abductions to police

- Carolyn Costello reports of child abduction of little boy not report to police

- Woman reports of suspects attempting to abducted female on street, she screams and suspects through her from a van and tell her they will be back for her

- Boy reports that white van driving slowing well woman walks down street, boy and friends go up to van and it drives away quickly

- Reports of a white van with no back license plate

Here is a link to Los Angeles Homicide report for females since 01/01/2007 showing 561

Michelle Lozano - 17 - 4/26/11 - Boyle Heights - COD: Unspecified

I'm working on a list of homicides in and round the Lincoln Heights area that list COD as Unspecified or other then a list of homicides in the same area but with the common age range as the Michelle Lozano and Bree'anna Guzman.

http://projects.latimes.com/homicide/gender/female/

"She has been identified as 17-year-old Michelle Lozano of Boyle Heights.

According to an LAPD statement issued Wednesday afternoon, " ... The victim had been wrapped in plastic bags and stuffed in a plastic container. The container had then been dumped over a concrete barrier along the freeway. When it hit the ground, the container broke open and spilled the girl's body into the shrubs."

http://blogs.laweekly.com/informer/2011/04/teen_body_boyle_heights.php

---------

"The coroner's office said Lozano died from asphyxia by strangulation and her death was ruled a homicide."

Wow, Deeds, this is amazing!

I am familiar with the area, having gone to nursing school nearby. It is a very poor, very heavily illegal-immigrant area, and there are significant gangs and high drug trafficking in the area. Further, Boyle Heights and Lincoln Heights have a "town rivalry", and a lot of crime occurs because of this. And a lot of crime is handled "in-house", meaning the gangs deal with outside criminals, but also criminalize their own territory. It's a very messed up area, and very few people would be willing to talk to those in authority.

Which sucks, if there's an SK in the area. It's good for the SK, but it sucks for LE.

I will be watching for further updates. Thanks for the work, Deeds...

Best-
Herding Cats

Your work on the opening post is amazing, Deeds. Thank you.

For the record, I'm adding this report that says the two LAPD divisions investigating the murders have compared notes, and at this point do not believe the murders are related. Of course, we know from other cases that these preliminary reports can change over time.

Detectives have been comparing notes and said that at this time they do not believe the two cases are related.

"Police in Redondo Beach are asking the public for help to find two suspects in an attempted kidnapping.

Police said the suspect was a passenger in a late 90s white van approached a woman on January 3 at the corner of Green Lane and Grant Avenue. "

cal.go.com/kabc/story?section=news/local/los_angeles&id=6701395

Found this story from 2009 not only does it mention a white van but the suspect drawings I find looks similar, if you take away the goatee...

The fact that she was wrapped and stuffed in items made of plastic is promising from a forensic perspective. Hopefully, fingerprints from the perp will be found on the plastic.

Fingerprints from crime scenes have been identified on papers, cigarettes, fruit, crumpled aluminum cans, plastic garbage bags, bed sheets, rocks, dead bodies (prints on bodies are usually contaminated prints involving body fluids, lipstick or some other substance transferred via the suspect's fingers), and thousands of other surfaces

How long do fingerprints last on evidence? Fingerprints on paper, cardboard and unfinished wood can last for up to forty years (per actual casework histories) unless exposed to water (and contaminate transfer prints can even then sometimes persist). Fingerprints on non-porous surfaces such as plastic, metal and glass can last for many years if not exposed to water and if left undisturbed.

In a posting on Northeast LAPD's Facebook Page, Davis directly addressed rumors that a serial killer was targeting young women in Northeast Los Angeles.

From Northeast LAPD's Facebook Page:

In the past couple of days we've been made aware that there is a fair amount of speculation brewing about a possible serial killer in the Northeast and Hollenbeck areas (due to the discovery of the victim near the 2 freeway). At this point it's simply much too early to see patterns suggesting that type of behavior. Rest assured that the LAPD has its top-notch Robbery-Homicide Detectives working the case and they are exploring all possibilities. While it's important that we don't jump to conclusions, it's also good for us to be alert in general. We welcome all of your feedback and information.

What jumped out to me on JVM was when the mother of the second victim, Ms.Guzman, said that her daughter was going to walk to the store ' WITH HER BOYFRIEND.' So I am still curious to know more about him.

I'm curious about the bf, too. Bree'anna's mother told JVM that she was involved in a "love triangle". I'm seeing some buzz about that on the blogs, but nothing official.

VELEZ-MITCHELL: Can I ask you -- not to interrupt, but tell us about this boyfriend. What do we know?

DURAN: Well, I don`t have much information about him, other than the fact that it was a love triangle, and she was prepared to end the relationship that he was not willing to commit to.

VELEZ-MITCHELL: Well, lave police interviewed this boyfriend? Let`s leave names out of it.

DURAN: My understanding is that he was interviewed, and I don`t know the capacity of what was discovered with their interview.
