Brenda Murdock, 48, was reported missing by her mother in late February. She may also go by Brenda Rodriguez or Brenda Romero. She was last seen in November in Williston, where she has worked at hotels, a grocery store and a gas station.

Two women reported that they may have picked up Murdock while she was hitchhiking in Rapid City, South Dakota on Feb. 24. The pair reported that they gave the hitchhiker, who said she was on her way to North Dakota to get a job, a ride from one end of the city to the other. Thinking the woman’s story was odd, they contacted police in Williston after finding Murdock’s photo attached to a missing person report online.

Police here are still trying to confirm that the woman the two picked up was Murdock.

Her twin sister, Brandi Romero, who lives in Colorado, said her sister’s disappearance is out of character.

“My mom is worried, she would usually keep in contact with my mom,” Romero said. “I just hope we find her soon.”

When two women pulled over on a cold South Dakota February evening in 2016 to give a lift to a female hitchhiker, they didn’t expect to wind up in the middle of a missing persons case.

Yet, that’s exactly what happened.

The female hitchhiker was looking for a ride back to North Dakota, but settled for a lift from one side of Rapid City to the other.

As they dropped her off, they noticed there was something not quite right about the situation. And then, they came across the missing persons poster of Brenda Murdock, who had gone missing less than a year prior from Williston, North Dakota.
