A man fatally shot another and then burned the body in Jackson Township, calling the murder a “preemptive strike” against someone he said owed him over $1,000 in drug money and had been planning to kill him first, according to police.

Randy Maurice Criste-Troutman, 28, of Mount Pocono, and accused accomplice Michael Brady Owens, 27, of Scotrun, are charged in the February 2016 murder of Demetrio Sean Hughes, 25.

Two Monroe County men accused of murdering another man then burning the body were in court Thursday for their preliminary hearings. One suspect stayed silent, while the other displayed behavior that left many in the courtroom stunned.

Randy Criste-Troutman, 28, of Mount Pocono lashed out multiple times during the hearing. He spit on the courtroom floor, cursed at the judge, called the prosecutor a profanity, and even admitted to murder.

The judge bound over all charges against the suspects, meaning this case can now head to trial.
