Officers believe he might have been in the Drumnadrochit area on Monday, March 14.

Mr Gates is described as being around 6ft 3, of a slim build, with short cropped greying hair and facial stubble. It is not known what clothes he is wearing, however he often wears black jeans, a T-shirt, a black padded jacket and tweed jacket, and possibly walking boots.

This is a weird one.

I live in Aviemore. We live beside a large mountain range called The Cairngorms, and there is a lot of rural space nearby.

On monday the 14th He was in Drumnadrochit, 15 miles away (as the crow flies). He was walking his dog, and the dog (a spaniel) got into a field of sheep and killed some. Then he vanished, and was seen in Aviemore, hence them looking for him here. If he's distraught about his dog (which after attacking the sheep is likely to be put to sleep) he could be up the mountain. It's just such an odd story.

It's been mild here in the last week (it's winter here, and we can get bad winters), but very cold at night and parts of the mountain have snow on them. If he's up there without equipment then he won't survive. The mountain range has skiing stations and bothys (small, simply built huts that people keep basics in for lost travellers dotted around the mountains), but it's very much wild wilderness. No predators (other than wildcats, which are only slightly bigger than a house cat).

So as long as he stay's away from the loch and Nessie he doesn't need to worry about that. I hope he's warm and safe somewhere..

Respectfully sniped by me as I wasn't sure if this would be subject to the 10% copyright rule. The entire statement can be read at the link above.

This is very sad news but at least some relief to the family to have found him.
