No idea if this was random or not.

RIP to the two women.

Blimey. The North is getting a lot of cases on here lately.

Marking my spot.

I'd guess that either one or both women were ex partner, the other if not an ex may be his or her mother/Sister/friend?

Truly awful :(

Police statement:

Police received a call to an address in Mapleton Crescent, Redcar at 8.45pm last night where a 46-year-old woman was located with serious injuries.

At 8.52pm a second report was received stating that a woman was being violently assaulted on Byland Close, Redcar, a short distance from Mapleton Crescent. On police attendance a 30-year-old woman was located and she had also sustained serious injuries. Both women sadly died a short time later.

We are treating both incidents as murder enquiries and specially trained family liaison officers have been assigned to the victims’ families who are understandably shocked and saddened by these tragic events.

The enquiry is still in its early stages and it would not be appropriate at this stage to confirm the names or details of the victims or their families.
The families of both women have requested some privacy as they come to terms with these shocking events.

Our thoughts are with both families at this time.

A 34-year-old local man was arrested on suspicion of two counts of murder a short time after the incidents and he remains in police custody.

Police are carrying out additional patrols in the area over the bank holiday weekend and would urge anyone with any information to either incident to contact them directly on 101 or to contact Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.

The poor kids.

:( I can't even find words :( poor poor children 💔

The murderer (don't think there's much doubt in this case) has been named as Alan Bennett and had first court appearance today.

Some lovely words from Lynne's children:

Lynne Freeman’s children – Sarah Helm, 28, James Helm, 27, Kimberley Helm, 25 and Lauren Freeman, 18, previously said their mother always put others before herself.

In a statement issued through police, they said: “We shouldn’t have to be writing a tribute to our mother who was taken from us so early. She should still be here to watch her four kids and grandkids grow.

“She was thriving in life and loved the volunteer work that she did in her church, and as a street angel for Redcar Beacons, always putting others before herself. She adored every one of her children and loved being a grandma.

“She wore her heart on her sleeve, always made an effort for people and she really would go the extra mile. She gave so much and never asked for anything in return, and we’ll always be proud of her.

“You are loved beyond words and an amazing soul never dies, you’ll never understand how much you will be missed. Our mother was always the angel looking after others but now the angels are looking after her. We love you so much mam.”

Redcar man sentenced to life for double murder

28/07/2016

A Redcar man has been given a life sentence after killing his partner and an ex-partner, who was also the mother of his children, within an hour of each other.

Alan Bennett, 34, of Lingholme in Redcar, pleaded guilty at Teesside Crown Court today to two counts of murder relating to the deaths of his partner Lynne Freeman, 46, and his ex-partner Jodie Betteridge, 30.

He was sentenced to life imprisonment of which he must serve a minimum term of 32 years and 233 days.

In March this year, Mr Bennett contacted police to say that his partner had been stabbed in the neck and asked that ambulance attend an address in Mapleton Crescent, Redcar. Attending the scene, police found the body of Lynne Freeman, Alan Bennett's partner.

Within minutes of this call, police responded to reports of another woman being violently attacked a short distance away in Byland Close. At the scene the police found Alan Bennett, who had delivered multiple stab wounds to Jodie Betteridge on a grassed area near her home, in full view of their three young children and neighbours.

Lynsey Colling, District Crown Prosecutor for CPS North East said: "Despite Alan Bennett's pleas to both murders today, we may never fully understand what motivated him to kill Lynne Freeman and Jodie Betteridge.

"Alan Bennett has offered no explanation for his actions and, until today's pleas, had taken no responsibility for his actions.

"I sincerely hope that the sentence passed today provides a measure of comfort to those who loved Lynne and Jodie, all of whom have endured devastating losses under truly horrific circumstances.

"I would also like to praise the professionalism of the emergency services staff who attended the scene in Byland Close. They swiftly took control of the chaotic scene at which they arrived, securing key evidence that has been instrumental in building a robust case against Alan Bennett."
