I wish they would tell us who the shooter was. Getting mixed reports about Trooper, prayers for him and others shot.

A gunman shot a Virginia state trooper Thursday at a busy bus terminal in the capital city of Richmond before he was shot dead by two other troopers, police said. Two civilians were hurt, though it was not clear if they had been shot.

Latest I could find; shows a clip from the police spokeswoman. She said one trooper was shot, with life-threatening injuries. Two civilians had non life-threatening injuries and the suspect is dead.

The gunman's identity was being withheld until his family could be notified. But CBS Richmond affiliate WTVR reports an official source told it the killer was 34-year-old James Brown III of Aurora, Illinois.

Greyhound shooting suspect was from a Chicago suburb with a long record, anger at police

Quoted from his aunt: "He had a lot of anger about the police in the past," she said. "He pretty much thought he wanted to be infamous . . . in terms of having a showdown. He always praised those people who got into shootouts with police."

WTVR CBS 6 reporter Mark Holmberg first reported the name of 34-year-old James Brown III of Aurora, Ill., Thursday night.

    http://wtvr.com/2016/04/01/trooper-k...ger-at-police/

Court records show James Brown III had been charged with murder, intent to kill, aggravated battery with a firearm, failure to obey police, resisting a corrections officer, aggravated battery of a pregnant woman, aggravated battery of an unborn child, numerous drug charges, intimidation, domestic battery, felony possession of a weapon, among many driving charges.
It's my opinion if no link provided.

This case illustrates perfectly why cops are so 'trigger happy'---as others often accuse them of being. They know that in an instant, someone can, and might, pull out a gun and kill them. People do not understand that. Few people can understand the incredible stress that creates in their day to day routines. So when someone puts their hands in their waistband or turns suddenly or acts erratically, a cop is going to assume the worst. They have to assume the worst or they will end up dead.

Do you have verified credentials to back-up knowledge on what other people think?

If not, maybe linking a study on what people think about this case or situation would suffice.

In the meantime, condolences to this officers family - if the facts are correct, the shooters family should have done something to help prevent this tragedy. They seemed to know it was coming.

Is a study needed to sense what Mr Brown was thinking?

^bbm sbm. Not presuming to speak for anyone else here, just my thoughts.

Mr. Brown's aunt, w whom he recently lived, commented to wtvr.*
"She was upset about what happened, but not surprised."
"She said her nephew vowed his prison days were over."
"He said he would never go back to prison again," she said. "He would fight it out with them."
    bbm

Personally I don't always accept a person's stmts about her dead or still-living relative (usu accolades and glowing praises) as the absolute, ultimate truth, but here his aunt seems to have been candid in revealing characteristics that law abiding ppl would find, uh, well, hmm ... unflattering. Or maybe she has no warm feelings for him and is exaggerating or not being truthful. IDK.

Assuming her stmt is truthful, seems, it is a better predictor of this particular man's predisposition to be violent toward LEOs than a study would be, imo.

Should LEOs azz-ume everyone they approach is a bomb w fuse burning, ready to violently attack LEOs?
IDTS, but I understand, before or during encounters, why LEOs may approach as though a person may be a bomb w fuse burning.
    All JM2cts.

State and national law enforcement advocates said they are increasingly concerned with an anti-police climate arising from a series of high-profile, racially-charged incidents that they say is getting police officers killed.

“Officers feel like they are targeted and they are being singled out for murder,” Bill Johnson, executive director of the National Association of Police Organizations, told FoxNews.com. “There is a climate out there that increasingly says it is open season on police.”
