PORT ST. JOHN, Fla. -- With the help of technology and a series of breaks, Brevard County police on Wednesday said they have solved a mysterious death that had lingered in their files for four years.

A former Port St. John resident was in jail Wednesday night, charged in connection with the crime. Police said they finally have the name of the victim, whose skeletal remains were found in October 2005.

On Sept. 16, David W. Slaton of Lakeland turned himself in...

Through conversation with those who knew the victim, investigators learned that Gavin had met with some men, including Slaton, at the Siesta Lounge in Lakeland. It was there Slaton offered Gavin work in Brevard County, where he was renting a house in Port St. John.

Investigators think that Gavin went to Slaton's Brevard residence and that's where he was killed.
