A Kensington man pleaded guilty yesterday to suffocating his 9-month-old son and, eight months later, strangling his 4-year-old daughter.
In exchange for his guilty pleas, 24-year-old Steven Walczak is to be sentenced to life in prison without parole, plus 20 to 40 years, at a Nov. 30 hearing before Common Pleas Court Judge Benjamin Lerner, said Assistant District Attorney Gina Smith.
In order to avoid a death-penalty trial, Walczak pleaded guilty to first-degree murder in the Dec. 12 slaying of Rebecca Walczak and third-degree murder in the April 14, 2004, death of Ryan Walczak. Both children were slain in Walczak's home in the 2300 block of East Tucker Street.
