Luck Changes for Hurricane Survivor

Talk about a change of luck! Hurricane Katrina survivor Jacquelyn Sherman has gone from having practically nothing to becoming an instant millionaire.

Sherman is living with relatives after being forced to flee New Orleans. She and her sister decided to go to Evangeline Downs Racetrack and Casino in Louisiana for a change of pace. And she got it, big time.

Sherman won a $1.6 million jackpot playing a "Wheel of Fortune" slot machine. Her reaction: "Thank you, Lord."

I saw that on the news last night. How cool for her! Said she was down to her last $20 in cash and decided to stop and play a few rounds at the casino on her way to the store. She's a retired librarian.

I put the story here - instead of 'news that makes you smile' because I wasn't really smiling that this person with no home/$$ is gambling

I am glad she won, more power to her - but sheesh, have some priorities

She said she will be buying a house. Don't you just know that would be the first thing she would want.....a roof over her head that was her own. Grounding and all that. Good for her, I hope she is happy for the rest of her life.

She had money - I mean I assume she did. She said she was down to her last $20 in cash and hadn't been to the bank. But, regardless, it's cool and I'm happy for her!
