IN - Oprah show helps FBI nab child molestation suspect

A partnership between the FBI and Oprah Winfrey's TV talk show to publicize the identities of fugitive child molesters has nabbed its first suspect, the FBI said on Friday.

William Davis, who was wanted in Indiana on 2004 charges of molesting children and failure to register as a sex offender, was picked up by FBI agents on Thursday in Fargo, North Dakota, on a tip from an Oprah viewer.

"The arrest was a direct result of someone viewing Tuesday's show where (Davis) was featured," FBI agent Paul McCabe said from Minneapolis.

Just when I think that I have seen the most depraved things a human can do to another human, somebody posts a new story...........

Why is it that when a custodial parent fails to provide for a child it is called neglect and is a criminal matter. But when a non custodial parent fails to provide it is called failure to support and is a civil matter?

    Another sexual predator busted!

Friday 11pm: Several people in Cleveland Ohio recognized Niles Scott from the Oprah Winfrey show called FBI & Cuyahoga County Sheriff's Office. The suspect tried to flee to Belize but was caught. They showed him being escorted into the sheriff's SUV in handcuffs just a few minutes ago. Pretty cool!

A tip to a talk show has landed a fugitive once arrested in Jacksonville behind bars.

Niles Scott was on the FBI's most wanted list. He's accused of rape and kidnapping in Cleveland in May of 2003. He is also facing charges of unlawful flight to avoid prosecution.

Officers found Scott in Belize this week after his case was featured on the Oprah Winfrey show. A viewer called in the tip. Scott is now being taken back to Cleveland.

Two days after Oprah Winfrey broadcast the photo of a wanted child molester and offered a $100,000 reward for his arrest, the suspect was busted and in jail, officials said yesterday.
A Minnesota woman instantly recognized 33-year-old William Davis as the upstairs neighbor of her friend in Fargo, N.D., authorities said.

One of the FBI's most-wanted fugitives, Davis was arrested Thursday and now faces numerous child molestation charges in two Indiana counties.

"I am just amazed that this person was able to recognize him, and thank God she did," Vanderburgh County Deputy Prosecutor Donita Farr told the Daily News. "He's off the street."

Winfrey was delighted at hearing of the arrest.

"This is a great day, and we're just getting started," the star said. "With every breath in my body, and with you by my side, we are going to move heaven and earth to stop an evil that's been going on for far too long."

Davis was known as the "rubber band man" because he lured children with toys he fashioned from twisted rubber bands, Farr said.

William C. Davis, 33, of Wadesville, Indiana, was arrested in Fargo on Thursday, two days after the talk-show host broadcast his face and offered $100,000 for information leading to his capture.

Jean Rosenthal of Moorhead, Minnesota, recognized Davis as "Mark," a neighbor of her friend Karie Miller. She called Miller on Wednesday, and the 29-year-old Fargo deli worker discovered the man's identity Thursday morning on a Web site.

"His picture came up and I started shaking so bad, I couldn't hold my coffee," Miller told The Forum of Fargo in Friday editions.

I am hoping that since she got such a quick response, that she will be encouraged to keep this as a regular part of her show. If so that could make a major difference in catching these criminals.

I am real excited about this. Plenty people watch her show more than America's Most Wanted. Wouldn't this be the greatest?

An accused rapist and kidnapper from northeast Ohio is behind bars, thanks to Oprah Winfrey and her viewers.

On Tuesday, Oprah profiled accused pedophiles on the run, and one of them was 50-year-old Niles Scott.

East Cleveland police Detective Joe Marche showed NewsChannel5 Scott's East Cleveland home, the place investigators say Scott used in the kidnapping and rape of his 11-year-old stepdaughter.

The case has stumped Marche for more than two years as he's searched neighborhoods near Scott's home.

Scott had worked at Cleveland's Naval Reserve center, but no one could have predicted he was living outside the country.

Then, in a big break in the case, Scott was found living in Belize.
