at this point, they're stating about 3,00 killed

Islamabad - The massive quake in India, Pakistan and Afghanistan, that triggered landslides, toppled an apartment building and flattened villages of mud-brick homes, has killed more than 3 000 people.

Pakistan's dead included 250 girls crushed by rubble when their school collapsed, and 200 soldiers on duty in Kashmir.

For hours, aftershocks from the 7.6-magnitude quake rippled across the region as rescue teams struggled to clear piles of debris in a desperate search for survivors.

These areas are so populated high death counts are inevitable :(

Very sad about the school girls.

I missed this earlier when I started a separate thread...

There have been 8 aftershocks so far...the strongest
of which was 6.0 magnitude!!!

Hope everyone keeps them in
prayer.:(
They need it.

love,

Ariel:blowkiss:

Ps-I have an acquaintance there named
Sabbo...I'd sure appreciate prayers for
him. Thanks!!

I hope Bin Laden and other Al Qaeda members were killed in the quake, if nothing else. I don't normally wish death on someone, but if some terrorists went down in the quake, we're all better off. Very sad about the innocents who died, such as children, though. Prayers for them.

I can't help but agree with your post. Children are the most importent part and never to be forgotten. They are the hope of the world.

Hurricane Katrina was devastating, yet even so we are fortunate to live in an industrialized nation with great resources.

May all who suffer be swiftly relieved of their suffering.

18,000 dead - that is incredible.. over 41,000 injured

My husband and I returned home today from vacation and are still trying to establish contact with my sister who lives in Islamabad having moved there in July from Maracaibo, Venezuela. My brother in law works for Schlumberger oil. We are just worried sick and pray that we hear something soon... Two of their four children are here in the states attending university at LSU. This family has been through so much as my niece and nephew have just gone through hurricane Katrina while attending university in Louisiana. If you are a believer in prayer, we ask that you offer some up for my family, Thank you ~ Indigo

I pray for the decent people of these areas.Indigo prayers go out for your sister and family. Please keep us informed. My husbands heart specialist is from Pakistan.I am sure he has family there.I feel so bad for the school children.I must admit my first thought was I pray it got Usama and friends, horrible to wish for but true as DarkKnight said.

I have traveled in India and Nepal. There are no social services there. If you think Katrina was chaotic this is beyond conception.

Indigo! Please let us know what you hear. Love ya girl,:blowkiss:

I'll be thinking of you lady and your family.

I work in the automotive business. Several years ago, the major OEM's like Ford and GM and the larger Tier One's moved certain parts of their business to India. Though it angered me that many of my contemporaries lost their jobs, I have met many people who work there and deal with them on an almost daily basis with emails and phone calls, and have grown to respect them for their dedication and work ethics.

And now on Monday I shall have to start the rounds of contacting them to see if they're alright.

Indigo, I am still praying for your sis and family!!
I hope you hear something GOOD and SOON!!!

I just emailed Sabbo; if he is ok, I expect
it will be awhile before I hear back all things
considered. Keep him in prayers, too y'all?

My heart breaks looking at
the pics from over there.

Here's the latest cnn.com article...for anyone

The count is now over 20,000.

But the communications minister for Pakistani Kashmir, Tariq Farooq, said the toll there alone could reach 30,000 as the focus so far had been only on the main towns, not mountain villages.

They are saying the death toll is over 25,000. What a terrible tragedy. They are digging survivors out, but it is a race against time. There are rescue crews coming in from all over the world. This area, the SF Bay area, has a large Pakistani population.

Thank you Ariel7, Nore, Jbean and all those who prayed for my family's safety. Good news from Islamabad, my sister and her family are all well but understandably shook up. A few broken bottles of perfume was about the extent of damage that they had. While I am truly blessed I still feel sad for those who received bad news and lost their loved ones. Thanks again for the care and concern... :blowkiss:

Prayers for Sabbo, I hope you get good news soon Ariel7 :blowkiss:
