TARA Brown and a 60 Minutes crew could face up to 20 years in a Lebanese jail after facing charges over a botched child recovery mission in the capital Beirut.

Brown, senior producer Stephen Rice, camera man Ben Williamson and sound recordist David Ballment are facing four separate charges, including kidnapping, causing harm and not respecting local authority.

There's little sympathy for them from the Australian public as far as I've seen, the children were snatched in the street in a rather alarming manner, and it seems the whole thing was very poorly conceived.

^^ A more in depth analysis, the mother and father lived in Lebanon with the children before she took them to Australia, so there is argument that she took them from him before he took them back. It's not clear how he was able to leave the country with the children in the first place, perhaps she gave permission, I've seen it was for a holiday to visit their grandparents, unsure if that's accurate.

Not sure if the circumstances really matter, kidnapping is kidnapping, and they broke the law.

Whoever signed off this entire debacle will likely be sacked unless they are senior enough to be immune, very ill advised, I'm amazed the legal department allowed it.

An Australian film crew, who was arrested in relation to an international abduction, has been formally charged with kidnapping.

The crew from Australian current affairs show 60 Minutes, including veteran reporter Tara Brown, producer Steven Rice, cameraman Ben Williamson and sound recordist David Ballment, were detained last Wednesday in Beirut, Lebanon.

Ali al-Amin and his two young children, who are at the centre of a custody dispute.
