Search continues for missing college student
By: News 10 Now Web Staff
Potsdam police are searching for a missing Clarkson University student.
Albert Campbell, 22, was last seen around 9 p.m. Friday night at the Cactus Grill Cantina Restaurant in Potsdam. Friends of Campbell told police they had a few drinks at the restaurant then Campbell decided to walk home to his apartment about one block away.
That was the last time anyone saw him. Campbell is a graduate student at Clarkson University. Police worry that the combination of alcohol and this weekend's cold weather could spell bad news.
Lt. Ed Tischler of the Potsdam Police Department said, "Its hard to say because if he was for some reason disoriented or confused last night and was left outside, he may be in a situation where the weather being as cold as it was, and him not being properly dressed, he could be in a hazardous situation at this time."
As a precaution police spent most of Saturday afternoon searching the Raquette River behind the restaurant. They said dive teams will head back to the river Sunday morning.
Campbell is 5 feet 6 inches tall, and weighs around 250 pounds. He has brown hair and green eyes, and was last seen wearing a blue t-shirt with white letters and jeans. Police also said Campbell has a goatee.
Police issued a Missing College Student Alert early Saturday morning. If you have any information that may help police, you're asked to call the Potsdam Police Department at (315) 265-2121.

Oh man, not another one! Please tell me that I am crazy and there isn't a pattern to each of these...."It seems that this is larger than I am. More than I can handle. Yet I know that I am being carried, for I am not strong enough to carry myself. I do not have the answers now but one day I will know and understand and maybe one day I will help to carry another." Young college guys going out then end up in a river or some body of water. Here is a link to a site that talks about it...

Body pulled from Raquette River
Shortly before noon, crews found what they were looking for -- but it was something they hoped they wouldn't find. Campbell's body was found about a mile downstream from the restaurant where he was last seen Friday night.
For Chief Alan Mulkin of the Canton Police Department, this weekend's search efforts were all too familiar.
He said, "Myself and one other officer from my department came over to assist on this case. The case clearly has similarities to the case involving Adam Falcon which occurred back in November of last year."
Falcon's body was found in the Grasse River six days after he was reported missing. Toxicology reports indicate his blood alcohol level was nearly three times the legal limit when he died.
Like the Falcon case, no foul play is suspected in Campbell's death, but just as a precaution, the area where the body was found is being processed as a crime scene.
St. Lawrence County DA Gary Miles said, "I felt, as did the chief, that it would be better for me to be on scene and get a look at the body on scene and attend the post mordem examination just to ensure what we've got."
The recovery efforts may be over, but the investigation continues.

Yep, found in the river. Amazing isn't it the way that most of the college/college aged boys end up in a river after a night of drinking. Each one of them walks down to a river and throws themselves in?
Thoughts and prayers going out for this young man's family. I wonder what they think happened.
