Taddeo Haigh, 31, left for a walk from the Sawmill Settlement in Merrijig on Sunday night and has not returned. Police started a ground search of the area on Monday morning, but by nightfall Mr Haigh had still not been found. Victoria Police said there will be a full-scale search for the 31-year-old at first light on Tuesday.

He is described as Caucasian, medium build, unshaven, with light brown hair. When last seen he was wearing a grey hoodie, dark jeans and brown shoes.

Searchers, including police on horses and trail bikes, are focusing their efforts on the dense bushland surrounding Merrijig. Search and rescue members, the police Airwing, dog squad and volunteer bush walkers are searching for Haigh and police are asking for anyone who may have seen him to contact them.

"Police are seeking information from motorists; if they picked anyone up from the side of the road, or noticed a person who may have looked out of place," police said in a statement.

A third day of searching has failed to locate missing engineer Taddeo Haigh, who vanished in Victoria's remote alpine region on the weekend.

More than 100 people were involved in Wednesday's massive search for the German-born engineer...

Crews widened their search radius to five kilometres and included all walking and bicycle tracks, but Mr Haigh was still missing when searchers suspended efforts about 7pm.

So sad. Hope he is now at peace.
