About 10.30am on Sunday 24 April 2016, emergency services were called to Snapper Point in the Munmorah State Conservation Area following the discovery of a woman’s body face down in water inside the blow hole.

The Homicide Squad together with Tuggerah Lakes Local Area Command have formed Strike Force Elise to investigate all circumstances surrounding the woman’s death which they are treating as a homicide.
A post mortem examination is ongoing; however, it is believed the woman suffered a violent death having been stabbed numerous times.
The woman, who was found naked with no jewellery or other personal items, is described as being of Asian appearance, about 170cm tall, with a medium build, shoulder-length dark hair, and aged from her early 20s to mid 30s

Detectives have spent the last few days canvassing the area and reviewing CCTV footage, Chief Inspector Jubelin said.

"We're very creative in the way we can capture what has gone on in the area. We are getting a pretty good understanding of what occurred in that area during that time."

Police divers had recovered "certain items from the water" near where her body was found, but police would not publicly divulge what they were.

Police are investigating several tip-offs relating to the identity of a young murder victim found floating face down inside a blowhole at Snapper Point on the NSW Central Coast on Sunday morning.

It is understood that some of this information includes online chatter within the Chinese community that suggests the victim may be an overseas student who was reported missing at the weekend...

That young woman had been in contact with, or was planning to meet up with somebody she had met on social media, according to the chatter.

She has been identified as Michelle Leng.

'Michelle Leng was last seen by friends waiting for a bus outside the University of Technology, Sydney, last Thursday.
Wearing jeans, a long-sleeved blouse and carrying a red bag, the 25-year-old Chinese international student told her friends she was headed to the Myer department store in George Street for an afternoon of shopping.
It is not known if she ever arrived, according to a missing person's report circulated by her friends and relatives on Chinese-language news sites and social media'.

Her name is Mengmei Leng, but known as Michelle in Australia. She was an economics major at UTS. She went on a shopping trip and took a train back to Campus railway station at 4.30pm, but did not make it to her home in Campsie. She lived with her aunt and cousin in Campsie.
She is absolutely gorgeous girl.
My thoughts and prayers are with Michelle's family.
Michelle, Iam soo.........sorry you had to go through this horrific trauma during your last hours on this earth. May your soul rest in peace.

Poor little love. So much potential ripped from the world and joy taken from her family, friends and fellow students; international and Australian alike.

UTS is my alma mater. It is an excellent university and an extremely close-knit community regardless of faculty. Students have to be passionate and dedicated to their chosen degrees and it is difficult for international students at the best of times.

This has been a very challenging week in Sydney. I feel a disturbance in The Force.

If this is the right Snapper Point, it's a long drive from Sydney:

Weird place to dump a body, one would think it would be better to go into the bushland? Poor child, this is an awful way to die, if she really was heading out on a date there will be a trail of communications which should uncover him easily enough.

No that's not it Mrs G - it's on the Central Coast - not too far from where I am sadly.

Still 2 hours away from Sydney, it's a well known fishing spot and a very dangerous one - several deaths every year, normally fishermen.

Oh thanks! So the guy probably had a connection to that area don't you think? Poor girl, what a nightmare for her. I hope this wasn't a Tinder date, I think those kind of hook up apps sound pretty shady.

You would think there was some sort of connection - could just be he was familiar with the area from fishing.

I would guess that she did know her attacker though being that she caught the train and never made it home.

Such a bright future snuffed out. Hope the killer is taken off the streets soon.

Wasn't she at a bus stop at Campsie? Or is the bus stop at the station?

Oh no!! So the 'going on a date' story was BS, or the trigger? Poor girl.

Her Uncle? A double blow for her poor family. I read that she was last seen at the bus stop on Friday morning. Obviously she wasn't.

She was captured walking along Pitt Street about 3pm last Thursday before later catching a train from St James railway station, which arrived at Campsie station about 4.30pm.
She continued communicating with her friends until late in the evening on Thursday, police said. After that point, her phone and social media accounts were not active.
