A MAN has been charged with murdering his mother whose body was found in her home in Melbourne’s southeast this week.

Socrates Tamvakis, 44, was charged with one count of murder this afternoon.
Violetta Tamvakis, 74, suffered fatal wounds in an alleged violent assault with a weapon in the front room of her Bentleigh house on Tuesday, police said.

Socrates Tamvakis, 44, was on Tuesday ordered to stand trial for the 2016 murder of his mother, Violet, after a committal hearing in the Melbourne Magistrates Court...

Ms Tamvakis had multiple stab wounds to her chest, back, and the back of her skull, as well as defensive wounds to her hands, according to court documents.

A man who bashed his mum’s head in with a rolling pin before stabbing her to death has been found not guilty of the crime because he’s mentally unwell.

Tamvakis will reappear in court in December where he will be ordered to undergo treatment at the high security forensic mental health hospital Thomas Embling.
