Video may help search for missing Woodstock woman

Published on: 08/31/05
By CLINT WILLIAMS
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution

Police detectives are hoping 96 hours of security camera video recordings will help them find a missing Woodstock woman.

The Ford minivan she was driving was found about 11 p.m. Monday in the parking lot of the Wal-Mart on Riverstone Parkway in Canton.

King said the store's security staff was reviewing the videotapes to see if Ray could be seen parking the van.

"The key to it all could be in that video," King said Tuesday.

The last person to see Sue Ann Ray, King said, was her husband, Quinton Ray. Sue Ann Ray stopped at her husband's garage in Jasper to get the minivan serviced.

The Rays are separated and in the process of getting a divorce, King said. They have a 5-year-old daughter.

Quinton Ray was arrested by Woodstock police on Monday on charges unrelated to the disappearance of his wife, King said.

He declined to reveal the nature of the charges.

Sue Ann Ray is 5 feet tall and weighs 110 pounds. She has blond hair and green eyes.

The family has established a Web site: http://www.geocities.com/FindSueAnn.

I take it that her daughter wasn't with her when she disappeared. Getting a divorce...little girl....wonder if the divorce was an agreeable one or not. She took the van in to her husband's garage so maybe they are on good terms.
I'm just so suspicious when a wife goes missing...and it usually ends up being the husband. Wonder if she had been shopping or if that is just where her van ended up.

We need more info. I hope there will be a happy ending to this story but I'll be surprised if there is.

That is such a coincidence that her cousin Heather Teague went missing exactly ten years to the day that Sue Ann Ray went missing.

Missing woman s family holds vigil

Thursday, September 1, 2005
From staff reports

The family of a missing Woodstock woman will hold a candlelight vigil tonight.

The vigil for 26-year-old Sue Ann Ray will be at 8:30 p.m. in the parking lot of the Canton Wal-Mart Supercenter, where her abandoned car was found Monday.

Her father, Danny Jenkins of Augusta, and other family are organizing the vigil in hopes of increasing attention on the case.

Ms. Ray left work Friday afternoon and went to Jasper to see her estranged husband, Quinton Ray. She left Jasper between 6:30 and 7 p.m., according to the Woodstock Police Department, but never showed for a 7 p.m. appointment.

Ray, 27, who has been arrested on what the Woodstock Police Department said are "unrelated" terroristic threat charges, has not been named as a suspect in the case.

Foul play has not been ruled out and police are reviewing security tapes from the Wal-Mart, where Ms. Ray's 1998 red Ford Windstar was found Monday after her family reported her missing.

The family plans to offer a reward for information.

Ms. Ray, a Cherokee High School graduate, is 5 feet tall, 110 pounds with blond hair and green eyes. She has two tattoos: a red and black tribal tattoo on her lower back and a flower on her left ankle. For more information, visit the Web site www.Geocities.com/FindSueAnn.

Anyone with information is asked to call Det. Sgt. Dan King at (770) 294-7231. Callers can remain anonymous.

For a person who is recently missing, this person has very little mention in the media.

From Jill at Angel Garden Of Hope :

Attached are some photos from the vigil for Sue Ann Ray that was held tonight @ the Canton Wal-mart Supercenter where her van was found.

Quinton Ray (Sue Ann's Husband), who has been held on unrelated charges and is a suspect in Sue Ann's disappearance SHOWED UP at the vigil tonight unexpected. He apparently had been released from custody today and decided to come. His demeanor was not pleasant and police swarmed him as soon as he approached the family and gathered supporters. This event was handled accordinly and the vigil went on as planned.

Heather Teague, relative of Sue Ann Ray who vanished on the same date, 10 years prior to Sue Ann was remembered tonight as well. You can see the split frame flier that was created to share with those who attended the vigil. There is a need to find both girls.

At this time Sue Ann remains missing, so please continue to keep her in your prayers. I am going to try to update the website tonight as well. It's pretty late here but I wanted to share this with you all because I know many of you have been following this with us since it happened.

My God, this family has to go through this twice??? How will they survive it?
This is so sad. I read in another thread that the husband is now considered a suspect. He came to the vigil and his attitude wasn't very nice.

I wonder how long Sue Ann and her husband have been married? Did they know each other 10 yrs ago? The two girls missing 10 years apart on the same day is really eerie.

I wonder how closely they are looking at family members.

From Jill at Angel Garden Of Hope:

As of Friday, Sept. 9th, the Carole Sund/Carrington Foundation awarded the family of Sue Ann Ray a $5,000 reward for information leading to the whereabouts of Sue Ann. In the next few days, we expect the amount to increase from other people who are going to contribute to increase the amount.

Information about the vehicle Sue Ann was last seen in is now posted on her website and her family has been passing out fliers with this information.
Last but not least, The Cue Center for Missing People are now in Georgia searching for Sue Ann. Their location has not been made known because interactions at the point from the community might hamper the search efforts.

Please keep Sue Ann close in your thoughts as this search continues.

Nothing? I wonder what LE is doing on the case? How can so many people just vanish without a trace? I wonder if there have been search warrents for her house, husband's house, his shop, his vehicles, etc. I wonder if the husband has cooperated...taken a lie detector test?

I heard someone on TV say..."we start out thinking the worst...foul play..and go from there". I know most LE don't think like that but this LE officer did. It only makes sense to me. Think the worst...assume the worst...and work from there. If it turns out that there was no foul play that is great but I think a lot of lives could be saved if LE thought the worst first...instead of waiting until they find a dead body and decide there must have been foul play. I guess I'm just so sick of reading horrible endings to most cases that start off with the cops saying "we don't suspect foul play." When most of us here look at the same case with less info and suspect foul play  :furious: and we end up being right on ;)

Missing woman s reward now stands at $100K

The reward to find a missing Woodstock woman has increased and so has the effort to find her.

Sue Ann Ray, 26, was reported missing Aug. 29 by her family after last being seen three days earlier in Jasper, where she went to visit her estranged husband. Her abandoned van was found at the Canton Wal-Mart Supercenter on Aug. 29.

The reward fund Ms. Ray's family started at Bank of America has received a $100,000 donation from a private donor, said her father, Danny Jenkins of Augusta.

The Carole Sund/Carrington Foundation has given $5,000 and private donations also have been received.

Jenkins said an application has been made to the Governor's office to add another $10,000 to the fund.

"That will shake the trees," he said of the increased reward. "Somebody saw something. It has been 40 days. It is time for this to go to bed. It is time for who is involved to come forward."

Don't get me wrong...I think there should be a reward for any info concerning a missing/murdered person when the abductor/killer is not known. What I would like to know though is how many people are actually caught because someone tipped LE and then they received the reward?

I can't remember ever reading a news account where the case was solved by someone who then collected the reward. I guess what I'm trying to ask is does a reward actually work? I know it can't hurt but how often does it work?

Some of our missing people have huge rewards offered just waiting for someone who knows something to tell what they know and then collect the reward. Nothing seems to be helping to find these people. Look at the reward for Natalee. You would think someone who knows something would jump on that. No one has. It just seems that rewards don't work that well.
