Port St. Lucie man who killed ailing wife in 'act of love' gets 9 years

FORT PIERCE William Hagers fatal shooting in May of his wife of nearly 60 years was an act of love and desperation, one of their daughters testified Wednesday.

Originally charged with first-degree murder, the 86-year-old Hager was sentenced Wednesday to more than nine years in prison after pleading no contest to a reduced charge of manslaughter.
