NC - 4 girls missing in human trafficking investigation, Alamance County, May 2016

Alamance County sheriff says 4 girls missing in human trafficking investigation
Sheriff Terry Johnson says investigators are looking for four juvenile girls in connection with a possible human trafficking case.
Two people were arrested last week in connection with an ineligible student-athlete from Nigeria playing for Eastern Alamance High School and Johnson said Tuesday he thinks it is part of a bigger human trafficking operation.

NC - 4 girls missing in human trafficking investigation, Alamance County, May...

A separate investigation by the North Carolina High School Athletic Association resulted in Eastern Alamance’s football and basketball teams being stripped of a combined 28 wins and a repayment of $19,000 in playoff gate receipts.

Investigators believe the pair acted in tandem to fraudulently enroll the juvenile into the school system and participate in two sports.
From another article. It sounds more like someone got mad over small-town high school sports "fixing" and now the sheriff is using the "human trafficking" panic button in the media.

Note that they don't bother giving any details about the "missing" students or ask for help finding them.

    From May 2016:

    http://abc11.com/news/3-girls-linked...found/1351579/

Authorities in Alamance County say three girls they've been looking for in a suspected human trafficking case have been found in Texas, New York, and the Dominican Republic. They said there is not a fourth girl as had been previously suspected.

    You're not kidding.

After following up with some of the students based on information they gave to vote, Hackney said, he learned that the young men were victims of Hines’ scam, which involved recruiting young people who were around 18 and 19 to move to Pembroke to receive basketball training, connections with college recruiters, scholarships and, in some cases, additional schooling through a school called Riverside Christian Academy.

In reality, Hackney said, approximately 20 of those young people lived in a house together near UNC-Pembroke, and none received any kind of high school or college schooling, basketball training from Hines or opportunities to further their athletic careers.

Hines received approximately $27,000 from the victims Hackney has identified.

    snip

As far as Hackney knows, all of those victims eventually left Mebane, including the one whose family had lived in Mebane.

“They all left at different times and went home throughout the country” or beyond, Hackney said.

So this seems to go way beyond just the initial report about 3 or 4 minors. The above link has a lot more details and is a bit clearer than some of the earlier articles.

This sounds more like an immigration-type scam than a sx trafficking situation. And I do NOT get why he would turn the school in when he was the one behind the whole thing. Was he even thinking?

I would consider the school to be just as much a victim as the kids/families.
