An Egypt Air jet that took off from Paris and was on its way to Cairo has disappeared from the radar, according to the airline.

In a tweet, Egypt Air said flight MS804 went missing from radar while en route. It is carrying 59 passengers and 10 crew members.
Egypt Air cited an official source saying the airline lost contact with the flight at 2:45 a.m. Cairo time. According to the airline, the plane was on the rise and disappeared before entering Egyptian airspace by 80 miles, or 10 minutes.
Very new reports. No speculation yet if related to weather, terrorism, mechanical failure, etc.

An Egypt Air Flight MS804, a Cairo-bound passenger jet that departed from Paris on Thursday morning local time, has gone off radar somewhere near Greece, according to the airline, as well as other posts on social media, including from Sky News Arabia.
KZ note-- very small number of passengers for this aircraft. I think this might be less than half full.

    Info on Airbus A320

    http://www.airbus.com/aircraftfamili...20family/a320/

Airbus launched its single-aisle product line with the A320, which continues to set industry standards for comfort and operating economy on short- to medium-haul routes. The A320 is in widespread use around the globe, with a range of up to 6,480 km. (3,500 nautical miles). It is capable of flying routes ranging from short European commuter sectors and charter operations to coast-to-coast U.S. flights, and more.

The A320 typically seats 150 passengers in a two-class cabin – or up to 180 in a high-density layout for low-cost and charter flights. As a result of an optimised cabin space and increased exit limits, the A320neo (new engine option) accommodates 165 passengers in two classes or up to 189 in a high-density configuration.

TV news reporting that search and rescue has been dispatched to the area.

    Watching CNN

Another Airbus A320... No bad weather in the area.
Disappeared off radar within 10 miles after entering Egyptian Air space...
Likely down in the Mediterranean if anywhere.

    What we know

Details are still – understandably – sketchy and facts still emerging.

Here is what we know, via EgyptAir’s official statements:

Flight MS804, en route from Paris Charles de Gaulle to Cairo, has disappeared from radar
The plane, an Airbus A320, was scheduled to leave Paris at 11.09pm on Wednesday night.
The airline said contact was lost around 16km/10 miles into Egyptian airspace at 2.45am local time.
The plane was carrying 59 passengers and 10 crew.
The plane was travelling at 37,000 feet when it disappeared from radar.
Search and rescue efforts are underway.
There is no detail yet on possible reasons for the plane’s disappearance.

Why would the plane be "on the rise" at that point in the flight?

Reports vary on how close the plane was to Egyptian airspace, but indications are it disappeared from radar over the Mediterranean. (Flightpath24.com)

The airline later said the plane was travelling at an altitude of 11,280 metres when it disappeared 16 kilometres after entering Egyptian airspace, a corrected distance from earlier information the airline had sent out.

It wouldn't be, it would be starting descent unless it needed to rise for another reason.

My biggest fear is when flying over the ocean.Things keep happening right before we have to fly again, leaving soon for Brussels and returning from Charles de Gaulle. This does not sound good,Egypt is a dangerous place and many Europeans are on holiday right now.
