According to Houston police, it started as a shooting in progress call at 13200 Memorial Drive at around 10:15am. When an officer arrived, at least one of the suspects began firing. More units and a SWAT team were called in and set up a perimeter around the scene.

At some point, one of the suspects was shot and killed, apparently by the other suspect.

BBM: Wow!

That other suspect was then shot by a SWAT team. The second suspect was taken to the hospital in unknown condition.

During the shooting, one citizen was shot and killed and two Precinct 5 deputy constables were also shot. One of the deputy constables was saved by his vest. The other was shot in the hand and is expected to be OK.

Three other citizens were wounded in the shootout. At this point, we don't know any of their conditions.

wow. that is nuts. So there were THREE active shooters?

There are some fancy homes nearby....but that is an apartment complex area (aka affordable housing but still not that affordable...)

It sounds like the old west! A shoot out right out in the open! Crazy! I hope all those injured survive. Prayers for the innocent lives lost.

HOUSTON (KTRK) -- A terrifying shootout in west Houston left two people dead and six more injured. One of those deceased is a suspect and the other is a citizen.
According to HPD, one of the suspects had a high-powered weapon, believed to be an AR-15. They say the suspect even fired at a police helicopter. HPD spokesperson John Cannon says the chopper was hit at least five times.

Breaking: Active shooter situation over. Witnesses say suspects shot at multiple cars. Killing 1 @abc13houston

Totally whack.

The shooting occurred at Memorial Drive Tire & Auto Center. A fire at a gas station across the street may have started when a bullet from the fire exchanged between the shooters and police struck a gas pump, Montalvo said.

Armed with AR-15s, the shooters left five bullet holes in a police helicopter circling over the active shooting scene.

Across the street, Bill Schwartz witnessed some of the shootout first hand. He and his wife passed the tire center on their way home from church at 10:10 a.m. They chatted about how they might get their car detailed there soon.

Schwartz, 62, said they saw a shirtless man with tattoos, who he later realized was one of the gunmen. Another man had his hands up.

One suspect was killed by a Swat team member. Another man, potentially a suspect, was shot and is in critical condition, police said.

In a second media briefing later in the afternoon, John Cannon, a police spokesman, said officers were trying to establish whether the criticially injured man had any connection to the dead gunman, who appeared to be the primary shooter – or whether he was a passerby who happened to be armed and became involved in the chaotic incident.

A civilian victim died after being shot in the head by a suspect while in a vehicle, Martha Montalvo, the city’s interim police chief, told reporters earlier. The man was found in the parking lot of the repair shop.

One suspect was killed, though it was not yet clear who shot him, and a second man with a gun was wounded after a SWAT team responded, police said.

But police said they still weren't clear on what happened, and whether the shooting of police and civilians was carried out by one or both of the armed men.

"The second male who was armed, we're trying to figure out what his role in this was. Was he a suspect or someone who just happened to be armed with a gun," Houston Police Department spokesman John Cannon said. "Until further notice we'll say suspect because he had a gun, OK, but what his role was we don't know."

The man was conscious and talking to investigators, but police said they would not reveal what he told them until they could determine whether his story was true.

A man came into a Houston auto detail shop and began shooting, killing a man known to be a customer and putting a neighborhood on lockdown Sunday before being killed by a SWAT officer, police said.

Several people were shot and injured, including a man authorities initially described as another suspect because he was present and armed. Police said later Sunday they were investigating further whether he played any role.

Police, who said they have no indication yet of a motive, said they got their first call about the shootings around 10:15 a.m. The customer described as a man in his 50s had just driven in to the auto shop. Within a minute or two, authorities said, the gunman came in and started shooting. Others in the shop ran out to take cover nearby and call for help.

Investigators found a military-style backpack Monday at the Conoco gas station that caught fire after being hit by a halo of gunfire Sunday. The backpack contained bullets, a birth certificate and several other items. Police are working to confirm who the bag belongs to and how it got there.

Investigators believe the backpack was detonated Sunday.

Officials said the main shooter fired multiple shots at a Conoco gas station at Memorial Drive and Wycliffe Drive, causing a fire to spark.

Police came back to the scene of the deadly mass shooting in west Houston today to collect evidence after our abc13 Eyewitness News team discovered personal papers, documents, bullets and a military bag.

Our team brought that evidence to a police officer's attention and it was taken away.

However, before that happened, our cameras capture video of it. You can see it in the video player above.

Police believe the items were left behind from one of the cars that were detonated at the scene.

Reporter Marla Carter asked police if the items belonged to the shooter, they said "possibly."

Police arrived and the original suspect was fatally shot by a SWAT officer, the only shot fired by a law enforcement officer in the incident, police said.

Bill Spangenberg and his wife, who live about a block from the shooting scene, had arrived home from the grocery store when the shooting began.

“They were reeling them off in rapid fire. It sounded like an AK-47,” he said.

There were a few shots, and then multiple shots that lasted up to an hour, he said.

It wasn’t until about an hour after it all began, that it finally came to an end when the main suspect was shot and killed by a SWAT team member.

There were more than 185 shots fired, including five at HPD’s chopper and a number of shots at the vehicles of responding officers.

The gunman was killed by the SWAT officer about an hour after the shootings began, said Police spokesman John Cannon.

http://www.foxnews.com/us/2016/05/3...leaves-2-dead-including-gunman-6-wounded.html

It started at the shop in the 13200 block of Memorial Drive at around 10:15am. When an officer responded, the suspect shot at the squad car. A photo posted on Facebook by Houston police after the shooting showed 21 bullet holes. Somehow, the officer wasn't hurt.

At a little after 11am, the suspect was shot and killed by a SWAT team member. We're told that SWAT team member was the only law enforcement officer to fire a weapon.

Police say a second shooter was struck by gunfire and taken to the hospital. At this point, the role of that person isn't known. Police are interviewing him now.

Still clear as mud as to what all happened in that 45-60 minutes.

This is what I can come up with from what I've read.

Subject1 (now deceased) was possibly on foot (or not) and was armed with a handgun and a semi-automatic rifle that has been described as an AR-15.

Victim1 (a 50-year-old male who was a regular customer at Memorial Auto) pulled into the auto detail shop. Victim1 was still in his car when he was shot in the head and killed by Subject1. Subject1 shot Victim1 in the head with a handgun.

All heck breaks loose.

Subject1 is thought to have started shooting random people with the semi-automatic rifle.

Witnesses say people began fleeing the area on foot, some of them scrambling over fences. This may be where initial reports of a third Subject came from.

At some point, Subject2 (later injured by gunfire and taken to the hospital, but able to speak to police) begins shooting.

It hasn't been stated who or what he was firing at. The story adjusted rather quickly yesterday to describe him as possibly a person on the scene who "happened to be armed."

Subject2 is possibly a proverbial "good guy with a gun" who started shooting at Subject1?

Law enforcement arrives. The first arriving unit takes heavy fire (21 bullet marks/holes.) A police helicopter is hit by 5 shots.

If Subject2 was a good guy, I would assume Subject1 fired all of the shots at law enforcement.

At some point a gas pump (located at a service station across the street? from the auto detail business) takes a bullet. A fire is started at the gas station.

I'm thinking Subject2 may have been located at the service station. If so, the backpack containing ammunition (and a birth certificate?) may belong to Subject2.

At some point SWAT arrived.

At some point Subject2 was shot. Possible he was shot by Subject1 -- explaining the initial reports of one suspect shooting another.

45 to 60 minutes after the first shots, Subject1 is shot and killed.

According to police, Subject1 was shot by a member of the SWAT team, the only law enforcement to fire a shot during the incident and possibly only a single shot if that reporting is accurate.

What a cluster.
