Major development in Kansas teen's 1989 cold case murder

Investigators say they believe they have identified a potential suspect in the 26-year-old unsolved murder of 19-year-old college student Sarah Jo DeLeon. Police say the suspect is a woman and the motive may have been a romantic rivalry, but they are not releasing the suspect's name...

DeLeon's body was found dumped along railroad tracks on the western edge of the city in 1989, with a head wound and multiple stab wounds...

I searched too and couldn't find anything. Strange case.

Better information on the POI in an article provided by Bessie in the Diana Ault case thread.

Police Hope For New Leads In Ault, DeLeon Murders

...the Diana Ault murder case is cold, but it is not forgotten. Neither is the case of Sarah DeLeon, which has a connection to the Ault homicide...

[Ault's husband] said he had an affair and moved out to live with another woman shortly before his wife's death. The other woman was [his] co-worker at a Kansas City, Kan., postal facility...

[It was] reported that the [same] postal worker had dated DeLeon's boyfriend, then he broke up with her to go back to DeLeon...

The Smithville, Missouri, woman charged in a 27-year-old murder investigation has been moved to Wyandotte County, Kansas.

Carolyn Heckert, a wife and mother of two girls, was taken across the state line Monday after waiving extradition to face charges in the 1989 stabbing death of Sarah DeLeon.

Heckert’s bail is set at $1 million. She may make her first court appearance in Wyandotte County on Tuesday.

ON the surface, Carolyn J Heckert was an impeccably groomed businesswoman and devoted mother.

Colleagues marvelled at the 48-year-old’s ability to juggle a demanding career as one of Smithville, Missouri’s most respected property dealers with the challenges of raising daughters.

Good to find a thread on this sad case !

At least Diana and Sarah's families can have some answers.

It's sad justice took so long -- hope C.H. rots in hell.

What on earth is she going to say to her two daughters? How many lives has she ruined.......

Looks like Mrs. Heckert could be a serial killer in a minimal sense.

Bond cut in half for woman charged in 1989 killing of KCK teen

http://www.kansascity.com/news/local/crime/article126998359.html

During a hearing Monday in Wyandotte County District Court, her attorney, John P. O’Connor, asked that her bond be reduced to $100,000.

Assistant District Attorney Jennifer Tatum objected to a bond reduction for what she called a “gruesome” crime in which the victim was stabbed more than 20 times.

District Judge Wayne Lampson set her bond at $500,000. He ordered her to be placed on house arrest if she posts bond, and she must surrender her passport.

A March 3 preliminary hearing was set Monday. It will be the first time evidence in the case will be made public.

I am in shock theses charges were dropped. I though she was arrested in October 2016 due to new DNA evidence. I am outraged
