The group was not planning to stay overnight in the area and are self-rescuing by helping each other to climb to the summit of Longs Peak.

Park rangers are planning evacuation efforts from the summit via helicopter and are planning to help the group get to the summit, if needed.

Forty-three park personnel are helping with the incident. A helicopter is also being used to help with reconnaissance efforts.

Sounds like they were on a training mission and hadn't planned on being there overnight. They gave out a distress call (they requested assistance) and apparently none of them are in the area they were in at that time. Yikes. Longs Peak is dangerous in the summer let alone winter/spring! It has been a snowy spring so it is definitely snow covered there right now.

So does this mean they know where they are and will help them once they get to a reachable point?

There is a "live broadcast" link on the www.9news.com homepage. I can see some people standing on the top of a mountain area with some snow surrounding it.

    I'd say that's probably them.

Isn't it so pretty?! Anyway, they zoomed in and I see at least 7 people. They made it to summit

It looks like they brought out bags from the helicopter and are attending to one, maybe two people?

They took three down and they're on flat land now. Looks like they walked over to the ambulances sitting there

This page says they've all been rescued (though it said this before they even had the last 4 down!)

Good news! I'm backcountry camping in RMNP on Thursday, but not getting anywhere near Long's Peak or any other climbs.
