MI - Man Wanted For Burying Ex-Girlfriend Alive Found in Florida
The sign at the edge of town says Grant Michigan is a great place to grow. Maria Torres is watching her four kids do just that.
10 year old Petra said, "I was so happy to have her back."
The happiness follows nearly 6 months of separation.
Maria couldn't see her children because she was hiding from their father, Carlos Medina.
State Police Lt. Kevin Leavitt said, “We had received several tips on the whereabouts of Mr. Medina. Several of them we were working on and confirming and it always seemed like we were one step behind him.”
Medina took off to Mexico last April, after police say he stabbed Maria a dozen times and buried her a wooded area in Newaygo County.
We have more details involving the arrest of the man police believe dragged his ex-girlfriend into the woods near Grant and buried her alive in April.
Carlos Medina was arrested 15 days ago, on October 3rd in Florida. He was taken into custody on drug charges.
After his arrest police say Medina tried to escape out of a window and gave them a false name.
Last week they discovered he was actually Carlos Medina and was wanted on an attempted homicide here in Michigan.

Why is it that when a custodial parent fails to provide for a child it is called neglect and is a criminal matter. But when a non custodial parent fails to provide it is called failure to support and is a civil matter?

Wow, she must have an incredible will to survive. Stabbbed over a dozen times and crawling out of her own grave. What a nightmare that had to be! I hope he gets LOWP so she can live safely with her children. It just wasn't her time to leave this world.

Can you even begin to imagine??? Thank God she was able to get out. I would have nightmares for the rest of my life about it. You know if they let him out he will come after her again. She will never feel safe unless he is locked up in a max security prison. With the way our legal system works he will probably get a month or two.
