The man whose remains were found last week on the Soboba Indian Reservation, three weeks after he was reported missing, is believed to have died at the hands of another person, the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department said Wednesday, June 25.

Jerome Salgado Jr., 37, of San Jacinto, suffered “traumatic injuries” that caused his death, a news release said without elaborating...

The release said no further information would be released during the investigation.

According to a missing person report filed with the sheriff’s department, Salgado was last seen in the Hemet area Friday, May 20.

The investigation began Saturday, June 11, at about 1:42 p.m., after deputies from the Riverside Sheriff’s Hemet Station received a call regarding possible human remains in the area of the Indian Creek Truck Trail and Ridge Truck Trail on the Soboba Indian Reservation.

I wonder if this is related? Another murder six days before Salgado went missing:

What started as a minor traffic accident in rural Nuevo has led police to a major criminal case involving a fatal shooting, the seizure of almost 200 weapons and the arrests of two men on the Soboba Indian reservation.

Those men, Nathan Delos Arviso, 33, and Alfred Ventura Arviso III, 35, of San Jacinto, have been charged with 115 felony weapons counts, and the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department believes “these two may have some involvement” in the slaying of motorist Hugo Gallegos...

Deputies responding to a May 14 crash at the intersection of Lakeview and Stalder avenues in Nuevo arrived at 3:21 a.m. to find a Nissan Frontier pickup upside down in a vacant field. Inside were Gloria Maria Garcia-Lopez and her husband, Gallegos. Garcia-Lopez was injured; Gallegos was pronounced dead about 30 minutes later.
