For those of you who want to discuss the terrorism factor and all that goes along with it you now have your own thread.
CLICK HERE for the Rampage Killings and Terrorist Attacks forum. Talk about all the issues surrounding terrorism as it relates to this case and terrorism in general.

This thread is about the 49 victims and the shooter in the Pulse Nightclub killing in Orlando.

On this thread you can talk about the victims, (that would be nice) talk about the actual crime, the shooter, the shooter's father's comments and so on.

There will be some crossover with the thread on terrorism. I realize this. However, it is up to you to pick the right place to post your opinions.

If your opinions are about terrorism in general and in this case, radical Islam, sleeper cells and so on then you need to CLICK HERE and post in the terrorism forum.

If you want to discuss the Orlando case then this is the thread for you.

If you want me to be black and white about what you can and cannot post that's just something I can't do. You have to ask yourself if what you are about to post is directly connected to Orlando or more connected to terrorism. Then it's up to you to decide which forum is correct for your post.

DON'T BE A JERK TO YOUR FELLOW POSTERS. If you remember this golden rule of posting and post in the right thread, you are going to be just fine.

Carry on please...

Bumpity Bump

Is it true that the person that crashed into the funeral procession, was simply in a rush and didn't realize that cops were pulling up along the side on motorcycles?

Or was this something more sinister?

The vigil in Orlando was very moving. Attended by approximately 50,000. It takes so long to read all the names of the dead, no way to keep the tears from flowing.

Angels Quietly Block Westboro Protesters at Orlando Funeral
As thousands gathered in Orlando, Florida, on Saturday to mourn the death of Christopher Andrew Leinonen, who was killed last weekend during the worst mass shooting in modern history, a handful of protesters from Westboro Baptist Church were among them.

But their incendiary, anti-gay signs were met by counter-protesters who've made a tradition of blocking them out with a powerful symbol: angel wings.

Rest In Peace, those that didn't' survive.

And heal internally and mentally, those that did.

It doesn't matter to them if this was Radical or Hate. They will never forget or really heal. Ever. RIP.

At the Joy Metropolitan Community Church, the Rev. Terri Steed Pierce told her largely gay congregation that survivor guilt was haunting some Pulse patrons who had made it out alive but had lost friends.
Pierce says she has heard of one man who committed suicide this week. She says he lost two of his friends to the massacre, though he wasn't at the club.

Orlando funerals wrap up, survivors worry about future

““All of this has been so traumatizing,” she said. “The way that our community has been impacted, it’s just so unfortunate. We have so many wonderful lives that have been lost. When we look at all these crosses, and all these faces, all these stories, it hurts. It hurts so much.””

I see that Jason Dearen has made it to the big time (and moved to Florida?) and is now an Associated Press Journalist. He was one of the very best Bay Area journalists. I can't remember for sure but, I think he might have been one of the local people reporting on the Laci Peterson case and for sure on the Scott Dyleski case. Anyhow, I had not seen this article previously posted.

It's very sad.

Omar Mateen bought nearly $9,000 worth of jewelry less than a week before he killed 49 people at the Pulse nightclub in Orlando, Florida, ABC News has learned.

The purchase was made June 6 at the Kay Jewelers in Jensen Beach, Florida, which is near the Lotus Gun Shop where Mateen attempted to buy body armor.

The owner of the shop would not confirm with ABC, but did say they were "working closely" with authorities.

"He didn't get into that", AG Loretta Lynch on whether on any of OM's three calls with negotiators, he mentioned his feelings towards gay Americans.

This weekend in Orlando, Fla., families are burying their loved ones — the people gunned down at Pulse nightclub. There are many different ways to grieve death. Sadness, remorse, rage. And then there's pure love.

If such a thing is possible, Daniel Alvear embodies it — in his feelings for his daughter, who died that night in Orlando, and for her killer.

Sitting with him, I find it a little hard to believe the Alvear spirit. I ask Alvear how he can be so positive right now. His family even started the hashtag #HugsNotHate. The answer is simple: "Love. Love, mami. Love."

A little more than a week after the shooting rampage at Pulse, an Orlando nightclub, key details remain unknown about what exactly happened during the violent episode and the hostage standoff that followed.

Even as investigators try to determine what may have motivated the attack that left 49 people dead and dozens more injured, they are still working to piece together exactly what happened during the three hours between the first gunshots and the moment police fatally shot the attacker. While some elements of the siege became sharper with new details that emerged Sunday, other parts remained hazy and uncertain.

The Sameness of Tragedy.

http://www.cbsnews.com/news/orlando-the-sameness-of-tragedy/

We cope, perhaps, by trying to compartmentalize it all. But where in our conscience do we find the room for still another shooting, another vigil, another funeral? There have been at least 15 already.

We go about what has become a routine of national mourning -- all well-intentioned, all necessary, but all far too familiar.

Some saw a rainbow over the Pulse nightclub last week, as a sign that perhaps the worst had passed -- that maybe love HAD won in the end.
But rainbows are fleeting. They will be back, but perhaps only after the next storm.

15 seems like too many. It seems impossible to comprehend and it's not even half of how many funerals there will be.

The FBI interviewed Orlando gunman Omar Mateen before he shot dead 49 people. John Pistole, former deputy director of the FBI, talks with NPR's Rachel Martin about how the bureau investigates leads.

PISTOLE: Well, in very basic terms, there's two parameters that the FBI have to deal with, one legal and then one simply resources. For every counterterrorism investigation - there are thousands ongoing at any time in the U.S. The FBI is bound by what's known as the attorney general guidelines, which there's been some talk about this week, which are really more than guidelines. They're directives that say here's what you can and cannot do, FBI, in terms of investigating a U.S. citizen. And then - and we can go into some detail about that. And then simply, the other issue is simply the resources. That - the FBI has, you know, X number of agents and analysts to work with on the joint terrorism taskforces. There's over a hundred of those around the country. And as they look at each individual, they say OK. How does this prioritize against others that we're looking at? And so it really comes down to those two issues of legal authorities and resources.

John S. Pistole was confirmed as the Transportation Security Administration’s (TSA) fifth Administrator in July 2010.

*SNIP*

Pistole came to TSA as a 26-year veteran of the FBI with extensive national security and counterterrorism experience. After the tragic events of September 11, 2001, he was put in charge of the FBI’s greatly expanded counterterrorism program, eventually becoming the FBI’s Executive Assistant Director for Counterterrorism and Counterintelligence. In 2004, Pistole was named Deputy Director for the FBI.
