Amber Jackson, a 57 year old female, failed to report to work at the Kauaʻi office of the Hawai`i State Teachers Association on June 24, 2010.

She lived in Kapahi where her car was found parked in the driveway with her purse and cell phone inside.

On July 3, 2010, her body was found in a remote wooded area in Keālia. An autopsy revealed that she sustained injuries caused by an assault.

Six years later, her friends and family are still piecing together the puzzle of Jackson’s disappearance.

“We just want some closure,” said Ceplo, a member of the Amber Jackson Justice Group. “She was my hanai sister. We were very close. We traveled together. She was our family.”

A Hawaii State Teachers Association tribute to Amber says: “Her previous work with Legal Aid, Marin (County) Treatment Center, and the Marin Services for Women as well as her love of the outdoors and a sustainable Hawaii illustrate the type of person she was and why she partnered so well with our staff, members, and the community. Amber’s dedication, sense of humor, and kind ways will be missed by all who knew and cared for her."

"Friends and family of a former Marin County resident found dead in the wilderness on the Hawaiian island of Kauai are hoping to find new clues about her killer on the ninth anniversary of her death...

She was scheduled to meet friends for dinner the day she disappeared. “We would meet for dinner every week like clockwork,” said Teri Ceplo, who was supposed to be one of Jackson’s companions that night. Ceplo said Jackson had just broken up with her boyfriend before her disappearance. “She was thinking of trying to move back to the Bay Area, mainly to get away from a boyfriend” who lived on her property, said Nancy Murphy, a friend of Jackson.

Jackson’s body was found a week and a half later in a remote, wooded area by a hunter’s dogs in Kealia, on the east coast of the island, her friends said. Her car and belongings were left intact at her home in Kapahi, a few miles west... Kauai police never found her killer, but there are people of interest in her case and it remains an active investigation, said Justin Kollar, the Kauai County prosecuting attorney.

Jackson’s friends are hopeful that posters on the island offering a reward will someday yield a breakthrough. A series on the television network Investigation Discovery, “Breaking Homicide,” is scheduled to explore Jackson’s death in an episode that will air in July...

The Amber Jackson Justice Group is offering a $20,000 reward for information leading to the killer’s arrest."

“Now it (the DNA) can be examined to today’s levels of expertise,” he said. “There’s a lot of hope that will turn up something that might be conclusive.”

Spurred from this investigation, new DNA evidence is currently awaiting federal processing, that was put on hold due to the coronavirus pandemic.

“Hopefully within the next 3-4 months with the DNA results, we should have a go-or-no-go,” Alexander said. “And we’re hoping for the go.”

Where is this former boyfriend now? Why did she wanted to move away from him?

It’s been 12 years since a Kauai woman was murdered. The Hawaii State Teachers Association (HSTA) recently announced that police might be getting closer to solving the crime.

Amber Jackson, 57, had been missing for several days before her body was found by hunting dogs in a remote location in Kealia on July 3, 2010. Her killer was never identified.

“We have not given up in our pursuit to find the suspect(s) involved in this appalling tragedy,” said Investigative Services Bureau Assistant Chief Bryson Ponce in the announcement. “What keeps us going and what has given us hope is that, even though it’s (over) 10 years later, there are evolving scientific methods that are being undertaken to potentially help discover the killer(s).”

Ponce adds that they believe this case is solvable and that they may be closer to finding out who might have played a part in her death.

Jackson was reported missing on June 23, 2010, by her colleagues after she failed to show up for work. She was a secretary in the HSTA’S Kauai office. According to police, her car was found parked in the driveway of her Kapahi home with her purse and phone inside.

It’s been nearly 13 years since a wild pig hunterʻs dogs discovered the badly decomposed remains of Amber Jackson hidden in a ravine in a remote wooded area in Keālia.

Her body was found on July 3, 2010, 11 days after the 57-year-old from Kapahi was first reported missing by her colleagues after she failed to show up for work at the Hawai’i State Teachers Association’s Kaua’i office. Friends also reported her missing the next day after she didn’t show up for dinner at Kauaʻi Pasta.

An autopsy revealed that “free spirit” Jackson suffered from blunt-force trauma to her head and sustained injuries caused by an assault.

No arrests have been made and the investigation remains open, the Kaua’i Police Department said.

Today, “Unsolved Mysteries” released a new podcast episode called “Hawaiian Homicide” featuring the 2010 unsolved murder of Jackson. Unsolved Mysteries, which also is a longstanding TV show, brings light to unsolved cold case homicides across the country.

The podcast’s tease said: “Investigators quickly focus their attention on Amber’s tenant and former boyfriend, who rents a yurt on her property. But then they hear about another man who neighbors say has some explaining to do.”

A group formed by Amber Jackson’s family and friends called the Amber Jackson Justice Group continues to advocate and pursue answers for Jackson’s untimely death in an effort to let people know who Amber Jackson was, how she lived her life, and why her death was so tragic.

Jackson, originally from Riverside, Calif., fell in love with Hawaiʻi during a vacation. She returned often and permanently moved to Kauaʻi in 2000. She was living her dream life while working as a secretary for the teachers association and also renovating old houses. She also had a lettuce farm on the Big Island, the podcast said.
