Here's a link to Sheriff Joe's press conference as the news is all over the place as far as how many were shot. Total of 8. 2 adults have died, another two are in hospital, 4 children shot, one was 2 years old who was shot in the arm. This happened last night around 10:30pm, in Laveen, AZ, on the outskirts of Phoenix in Maricopa County.

Semi automatic weapon was used
Small urban town, farmland & Gila River Indian Community (been through there many times)

This is pretty unusual for Phoenix news as was the press conference this morning with the number of people shot going from 6 to 8. There's 8 people, 4 who are children who have been shot, but no updates. Strange.

Updated Tucson article..

2 adults who died in shooting during Laveen gathering identified

"It was difficult for neighbors to pick up on what happened because fireworks were going off. We need help to solve this vicious incident.” Arpaio said.

A 2-year-old child was shot in the arm and transported to the hospital in stable condition, Subervi said. A 13-year-old and a 15-year-old were shot in the leg. Another juvenile was also wounded. The teens are expected to be OK.

The teens' father said they told him it was gang-related, but that has not been confirmed by police.

“I saw a baby being pulled out and they ran it to the ambulance, all full of blood," the man said. "And then I saw a big, heavy-set guy rolled out at the same time. He was full of blood.”

Another person was having trouble breathing & had chest pains.

MCSO said Armando Cardona, 45, and Naome Innis, 35, were the victims who died.

RIP Armando & Naome. My thoughts are with them all.

The gunfire ended the life of Armando Cardona II, a man who was a friend, brother and a father.

According to his 17-year-old son, Cardona was a visitor and not a resident at the mobile-home park where the shots were fired. It was the classic case of being at the wrong place at the wrong time, he said.

"He was patient and kind and the very best friend you could ever hope to find," Cardona's son, Armando Cardona IV, said in a conversation with a reporter on Facebook. "He was no ordinary man."

Phoenix police say they are investigating whether the same person is behind four incidents that have killed six people, including a 12-year-old girl, in the city's Maryvale area.

The location, time of day and method of operation are some of the common factors among the slayings, which date back to April 1, Sgt. Jonathan Howard said. He declined to release further details.

Five of the victims died in shootings that occurred in a nine-day period last month. All of them were outside a residence at night when they were killed by gunfire from a vehicle. The crime scenes are within an area between 55th and 67th avenues and McDowell Road and Campbell Avenue.

More at the link including some specifics on the events that preceded the July 4 shootings.
