The parents of the baby girl who was abandoned in an apartment complex dumpster and seriously injured last week were arrested Wednesday on suspicion of disorderly conduct at Perry Lake by Jefferson County Sheriff's deputies.

Marquis Young, 25, and Sheena Young, 26, were booked into Jefferson County jail about 9:30 p.m. Wednesday, accused of using “fighting words” and “noisy conduct to cause resentment,” according to the Jefferson County booking log.

I am waiting patiently for the charges against the baby.

It's the dad - no surprise there. I'm glad to see an arrest though.

From domestic battery to accusations of attempted murder: the criminal history of man accused of leaving baby in dumpster

Two days before his infant stepdaughter was found in an apartment complex's trash, Marquis Young was sentenced to six months of probation for battering the baby's mother, his wife.

Now, the infant is out of the hospital and in the state's custody while Young is accused of attempted murder.

Currently held in a nearby jail, Young, 27, of Lawrence, will face felony attempted first-degree murder and child abuse charges, police say.

The upcoming felony charges will not be Young's first. A review of his criminal history shows multiple offenses involving physical violence and destructive behavior.

The following is a brief summary of Young's criminal record, according to court documents filed in Johnson County District Court:

I hope his criminal history can be shown at his attempted murder trial. moo

Lawrence man accused of putting baby in trash compactor ordered to stand trial; mother tells of drinking, fights

Noting that Marquis Young was the last person to be seen with his infant stepdaughter before she was found in a trash compactor, a judge on Monday ordered him to stand trial for attempted murder.

Young currently faces felony charges of attempted first-degree murder and abuse of a child. He appeared in court Tuesday for a preliminary hearing, where witnesses testified about events surrounding the incident.

Man accused of putting infant stepdaughter in trash pleads to lesser felony charges, awaits sentencing

A Lawrence man accused of placing his infant stepdaughter in a trash compactor was convicted Monday of two lesser felony charges than the one he originally faced.

A single felony charge of attempted first-degree murder was filed against Marquis Young in July. On Monday prosecutors filed an amended complaint in Douglas County District Court, charging Young with one felony count each of aggravated battery and abuse of a child. He pleaded no contest to the two charges the same day, Jill Spurling, a trial assistant with the Douglas County District Attorney's Office, said in an emailed response to questions.

Makes me upset that they can plea down to a lesser charge and that the law allows it! jmo

Kansas has been horrible in how they charge and deal down people who kill children. It makes me so angry!

Lawrence man accused of abusing, leaving infant daughter in dumpster sentenced to 15 years in prison

Marquis Young, 28, initially charged with attempted first degree murder and child abuse in the case, later pleaded no contest to aggravated battery and child abuse, both felonies. On Friday Judge Paula Martin sentenced him to 186 months, or about 15 and a half years, in prison for the crimes.

I am glad Judge Paula Martin was presiding over the case, as she can be a tough one at sentencing. imo
