More about the criminal who shot the officer.

Taylor spent roughly two-thirds of the past decade behind bars, according to available court records.

Despite this lengthy criminal history, suspect was out on probation.

"Taylor was on probation for a weapons violation in St. Louis. He also had been on probation for a stolen vehicle in Oklahoma, and was picked up on a gun charge in California, drawing a prison term for being a felon in possession of a firearm. He was paroled in March 2015."

The Ballwin Police Department released a statement late Saturday saying the officer, Mike Flamion, joined the force in 2014, following seven years as an officer in De Soto, Missouri. Authorities said Flamion was shot from behind Friday while walking to his patrol car. He was hospitalized in critical but stable condition.

“It’s been crazy. Our officers who come up and visit him as they come across the parking lot, people come up and give them hugs and shaking their hands, and thank them for everything they do,” Pogue said. “And that really means a lot to them to hear that right now.”

MO. BallwinPD LEO shot in neck by driver in traffic stop. July 8, 2016

    "A Ballwin [middle class suburb of St. Louis, MO] police officer was in critical condition after he was shot in the neck during a traffic stop late Friday morning, police said. The officer had stopped the car for speeding ... about 11 a.m., police said. As the officer went back to his car, the driver got out ... fired three shots at the officer, police said." Fri = July 8.Handgun used was .22 caliber. {{ETA: lots of pix at lnk}}

The officer was taken to a local hospital.

After shooting the officer, the gunman Antonio Taylor, 31, of the city of St Louis, drove away, ~4 miles, abandoned car, fled on foot in residential neighborhood. He was captured a short time later. A .22 was later recovered by LE. Taylor was charged with first-degree assault of a law enforcement officer, armed criminal action and unlawful possession of a weapon. Bail was set at $500,000.

"Taylor spent roughly two-thirds of the past decade behind bars, according to available court records.
In 2006, Taylor was charged and convicted in Beckham County, Okla., on charges of second-degree robbery and unauthorized use of a vehicle, online records from the Oklahoma Department of Corrections say. He was sentenced to five years in prison and released on Jan. 29, 2009."

And his crim history extends to MO, including illegal possession of firearm, and more, more, more. See discrepancies between statements in his letter to the MO judge and his parole office's reports re drug tests, & other parole violations. He was released from prison in March 2016.

"The Ballwin police officer shot in the neck at a traffic stop Friday morning has been identified as Michael Flamion, a member of the force since December 2014.

... Chief Kevin Scott said Flamion has been a police officer for nine years. Before... he was an officer with the De Soto department for seven years."

    "
Flamion, 31, remained in critical ... condition Saturday at Mercy Hospital ... Flamion lived with his wife in House Springs in Jefferson County, where neighbors described him as a nice guy always willing to lend a hand.
Neighbors said Flamion and his wife were living with his parents while they built a home. Family members said he had attended St. Pius X High School in Festus... Flamion “is an outstanding officer whom the citizens of Ballwin should be proud to call their own.” bbm

Wounded Ballwin officer 'forever changed' perm. injuries

"Officer Michael Flamion, shot in a traffic stop last week, suffered permanent injuries, his department announced Tuesday afternoon on Facebook... coming to light that his life, and that of his family, will forever be changed by his injuries will require long-term medical care... "

"Flamion’s injuries have qualified him for the BackStoppers’ Catastrophic Injury Fund, said Ron Battelle, executive director of the nonprofit organization that provides financial assistance to the families of slain first responders. The special fund aids those whose duty injuries are permanent. Past recipients include two officers who were paralyzed by gunshots, one who was blinded in a shooting, and another who lost his legs after being hit by a car, Battelle said..."

"Draper [w his former PD-employer] said Flamion [31 y/o] has not been able to breathe on his own since being shot." bbm
