Officers in Lowell, Indiana, are investigating the discovery Monday of a newborn wrapped in a black towel with the umbilical cord and placenta still attached.

(...)

The infant was lying in the sun on a day with temperatures were nearing 90 degrees.

At a news conference Monday, Lake County Sheriff John Buncich called the infant "Miracle Baby Jane Doe" and referred to the child who found her as a "guardian angel," (...)

The baby was taken to the hospital and is expected to recover. The child's mother has not been located. The sheriff believes the newborn may have been left in the yard sometime overnight.

We should all be so lucky to have a guardian angel like this kiddo!

There's been so much information in the media, at least in central Indiana, this past month about the Safe Haven Law, especially due to controversy over Safe Haven Baby Boxes.

Good for her! Glad the sheriff's dept. is planning to recognize her in some way.

A 10 year old has more common sense than some adults.

Wow what a lucky little baby! I hope she finds a loving family who adopts her. Kudos to the girl who found her.

Btw, maggots emerge within 20 hours after the eggs are laid, but need at least 8 hours. So Baby Jane Doe must have been lying in the backyard for at least 8 hours all alone.
