14 people shot at California house party

    http://www.cp24.com/news/14-people-s...arty-1.2990220

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. -- Attackers have wounded 14 people, two critically, in a shooting after a party in California's Central Valley.

It happened shortly before 1 a.m. Saturday in Bakersfield.

Kern County Sheriff's spokesman Ray Pruitt tells KNX-AM radio that homeowners allowed their daughter to host the party. She promoted it on social media and about 150 people arrived -- many uninvited.

The parents broke up the party and the visitors -- mainly 15- to 18-year-olds -- streamed into the front yard and street.

Pruitt says that's when three people came up the street and opened fire on the crowd. At least one person reportedly fired back.

Three young men who were told to leave a Bakersfield house party returned early Saturday morning and opened fire into a crowd of more than 100 teenagers, injuring 14 people, authorities said.

The shooting occurred about 1 a.m. in the 600 block of Stephens Drive and left two people in critical condition, said Ray Pruitt, a spokesman for the Kern County Sheriff’s Department. All of the victims are expected to survive.

Pruitt described the suspects as black males between the ages of 16 and 19, but he said that as of Saturday night, no arrests had been made.

A girl who lives at the home where the shooting occurred was given permission to throw a party by her parents and promoted the party on social media, Pruitt said.

“At some point, people who were not invited showed up,” he said. The party swelled to at least 150 revelers and “at some point, it got out of control,” Pruitt added.

Authorities believe a verbal confrontation took place between two different groups in the backyard of the house, and several people were told to leave the party.

There is a possibility the parents could be held liable for violating Kern County’s “social host ordinance,” Pruitt said, because authorities believe the parents allowed juveniles to come to a party where alcohol was served. He said deputies found a number of alcohol containers in the backyard.

Mom Regrets Teen Party After 14 Shot

"Alicea Wallace said she and her husband agreed to allow their teen children to have a fairly large party, but after word spread on social media it surged to 150 people, most between 15 and 18 years old."

Fortunately, no one was killed but 2 are in critical condition with non-life-threatening injuries. Wonder if the 3 gunmen were captured and charged?

Police on Sunday continued to look for three young men who detectives believe were involved in the attack.

A girl who lives at the home where the shooting occurred was given permission to throw a party by her parents and promoted the event on social media, Pruitt told The Times.

“At some point, people who were not invited showed up,” he said. The party swelled to at least 150 revelers and “at some point, it got out of control,” Pruitt added.

“They did leave, and we believe it was those individuals who left the party that came back and opened fire on the crowd,” Pruitt said, adding that investigators believe the shooting was gang-related.

Authorities also believe that at least one person in the crowd returned fire.

Pruitt said his department does not have a description of the vehicle, and deputies have been having difficulty getting victims and witnesses to identify the shooters.

Dang...one time my son made some kids leave our house and they came back and stole our Nintendo Wii and a bunch of DVDs. Now that doesn't seem so bad by comparison to people returning with guns. Yikes.

    UPDATE

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KBAK/ KBFX) — Police say the violence in Kern County is likely going to keep getting worse after five separate shootings killed two people and left 16 others injured.

Bakersfield Police Sgt. Gary Carruesco said this weekend's mass shooting at a party full of kids was probably the most violent he has seen since joining the department.

    ALSO

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (AP) — Authorities blame a gang rivalry for a mass shooting at a California house party for teenagers over the weekend that injured 14 people, officials said Monday.

The party at a Bakersfield-area home grew to more than 150 people after it was publicized on social media.

A fight broke out, prompting parents at the home to force three people to leave, Kern County Sheriff Donny Youngblood said. The three later returned, and at least one of them opened fire on the crowd with a semi-automatic handgun.
