"Kelly Kiper Longoria was abducted at a convenience store on her way to work Saturday and taken to outside Gesthemane [sic] Cemetery, near Terry Wallace Memorial Park in Winnsboro, where she was shot in the head."

"
A suspect, Kevin Q. Mathis, 25, was booked into the Franklin Parish Detention Center Saturday on charges of attempted first-degree murder and aggravated kidnapping. He is being held on a $1 million bond."

According to the article the bullet is lodged in Kelly's brain and they cannot operate to remove it. She's being heavily sedated but has responded to stimuli. Kelly's husband Shane Longoria is the youth pastor at Life Church in Winnsboro (see http://baptistmessage.com/winnsboro-shooting-victim-showing-miraculous-improvements/
) and there will be prayer gatherings on Saturday and Sunday in town.

ETA the name of the cemetery is actually spelled 'Gethsemane'.

Wow, so senseless. I wonder if she was a random victim of an attempted robbery or sex assault or did this guy specifically target her for some reason?

From last month:

Kevin Mathis appears back in Franklin Parish Court

http://www.knoe.com/content/news/kevin-mathis-appears-back-in-court-406686085.html

Mathis' defense attorney had asked for a commission to be appointed to determine his sanity at the time of Longoria's abduction.

Today, the hearing was delayed, because the court did not have the proper reports from doctors to determine his sanity.

Mathis returns to court again on February 14, 2017. His trial date is scheduled for February 21, 2017.

Change in venue granted for Mathis trial

The trial for Kevin Q. Mathis, who faces charges of aggravated kidnapping, attempted first degree murder and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon in connection with the case, will be moved to Oak Grove.

The case is currently set for trial Nov. 13, according to Barham, but was previously delayed after attorneys for Mathis requested in April that a sanity commission be appointed.
