Police say an older woman was observed walking near Springhurst and Spencer avenues at around 2:30 p.m. when a flat-bed truck pulled up alongside here.

At that point, police allege that an unidentified party lifted the woman into the cab of the truck and then placed her walker in the back of the truck.

Police are investigating after a woman in her 80s was put in a flatbed truck and driven away while she was walking in Parkdale on Tuesday afternoon.

The woman is white, five-foot-two, with a medium to heavy build and long, grey hair down her back. She was wearing dark clothing.

Police said it could be a case of family helping the woman, but they want to make sure she’s safe.

Police are asking the public for help after an elderly woman may have been abducted in the city’s west end. Investigators say she was heard “screaming” while “aggressively” being thrown into a flat-bed truck near Toronto’s Liberty Village.

Police said a flat-bed truck pulled up alongside the woman and she was “aggressively” lifted into the cab of the truck before her walker was thrown into the truck bed.

The truck was last seen driving northbound on Spencer Avenue and police said the woman was heard screaming as it drove away, but have no further description of the vehicle.

Police are hoping to speak to anyone who may have information that can help identify the woman and her whereabouts.

“The woman was yelling once the vehicle drove away,” said police spokeswoman Const. Jenifferjit Sidhu. “That’s why we think she was aggressively taken.”

Part of the investigation includes reviewing any security camera footage from the area, knocking on doors and asking people in the area if anyone knew the person or recorded the vehicle’s license plate.

“So far, negative result,” Sidhu said Wednesday morning. “We don’t know who she is, apart from being a woman with a walker.”

I can well imagine the woman having dementia, going out walking and in danger of getting lost. A family member or family friend either driving by or out looking for her spots her and stops to intervene. The woman would naturally yell and resist, not realizing she was being helped to avoid danger. I can't imagine another reason why someone in a flatbed truck would forcibly pick up an elderly woman with a walker.

There is a home for elderly people with mental problems at 85 Spencer, a few blocks from where this lady was picked up. The truck drove north on Spencer toward it, so the person may have been returning her to the home.

Vancouver Police are investigating after a pair of disturbing and apparently random attacks against elderly women on the west side that may be linked.

Police say the first incident happened around noon, on West Broadway near Ash St. Investigators say an 84-year-old woman was sitting on her walker waiting for a ride, when a man walked up, kicked her off her seat, and walked away

The second attack happened about two hours later near Broadway and Granville, where a 70 year old woman in a wheelchair was approached by a man who punched her in the face before walking away.
