Human remains were discovered on a patch of land in the Tiger Bay Wildlife Management Area this weekend, but investigators have not yet determined the body's identity or cause of death.

Saturday evening, a 28-year-old deer hunter from Orlando found a few bones scattered about a section of land 300 yards south of International Speedway Boulevard. The hunter, Carson Gore III, also found a backpack filled with clothes and a shotgun near the remains.

The original link is dead but here is some info:

The bones were a mix of human and animal remains. There was clothing scattered nearby and in the backpack, along with the shotgun and a spent shotgun shell, [sheriff's spokesman Gary] Davidson said.

No identification was found. Investigators aren't sure how the person ended up in the woods or how long the remains have been there, but Davidson said the two most obvious scenarios are that the person was the victim of a suicide or hunting accident.

I didn't find the case in Doe or Namus.

Last year, investigators recovered the remains of Peter J. Martin in a wooded area south of International Speedway Boulevard.

Martin's remains were found in October by a hunter in the Tiger Bay Wildlife Management Area. Haught said the cause of that death is not being released.

Investigators said Martin was in his 40s. He was not reported missing and relatives told investigators that the man liked to go off on his own for long periods of time.

I am so confused... Is there an additional body?

A hunter discovered the bones Sunday afternoon west of Clark Bay Road and about a quarter-mile off International Speedway Boulevard, between DeLand and Daytona Beach.

A backpack and a semiautomatic handgun were also recovered. The gun must be restored to see whether the serial number can be determined.

Clothing in the backpack included a size XXL shirt and size 13 or 14 shoes. The man may have worn glasses.

The remains eventually will be sent to the University of Florida's C.A. Pound Human Identification Laboratory for a forensic examination.

Anyone with information about the man's identity is asked to call Mike Campanella of the Sheriff's Office at 386-254-1537.

Is the the "earlier" body found the reason this was included on this forum? Was the other ID'ed?

Has anyone heard more about this? The post above mine if confusing. Was there 2 bodies found or one??

I'm confused also. The header for this thread has the year 2005 as the date Mr. Martin's remains were found. Later posts to this thread have articles dated January 2006 and mention remains found ” last Sunday”. Then another link is to an article that refers to ” remains found last year”. I really don't know if we're discussing one or two sets of remains???

The bones in the OP were found in October 2005 and were identified as Peter Martin.

The article from which summer breeze found the identity of the deceased also happens to discuss another discovery of unidentified human remains in January 2006.

There is a thread for that case as well: http://www.websleuths.com/forums/sh...-45-Cal-Pistol-IntraOral-Gunshot-Wound-Jan-06

The other UID from Jan 2006 remains unidentified thus far.
