Germany - Restaurant explosion in Ansbach, 24 July 2016

"An explosion at a restaurant has killed at least one person and injured several others in the German city of Ansbach, near Nuremberg.

The town's mayor has now said the blast was caused by an explosive device, and was not an accidental gas explosion as earlier reports suggested.

The explosion took place at around 10pm at a restaurant in the city centre and one person has been confirmed dead, with at least 11 more injured.

Early local media reports had suggested the explosion was caused by a gas leak - however the town's mayor has now said it was a deliberate act.

A nearby music festival has now been cancelled as Germany remains on high alert in the wake of a series of incidents in recent days.

at this rate, German attacks will need its own sub-forum. It's a shame, because we want desperately to go back to Bavaria, but are not ready to spend a holiday on edge, instead of enjoying it. I feel terrible for the German people, and what is happening to them now. Especially, after all the hospitality they have offered as a whole.

So...sounds like he planned to set off the explosion at the concert, killing a large number of people who were having fun on a summer night. That didn't work, so he headed to the wine bar.

Good news. Now to pray the injured recover. Would be nice for there to be an incident of this nature where only the perpetrator dies.

According to present knowledge of the police the only casualty is the suspect.
At least ten persons suffered partly serious, but not life-threatening injuries.
The Police had initially spoken of a "restaurant explosion."

The man, who is said to have worn a backpack, had apparently tried to enter the festival site.
However, the security forces at the entrance before the wine bar searched all bags of all visitors.
Hence, the suspect turned away and walked to the wine bar. He would have been making a lot of phone calls.

This is apparently the second attack in Germany TODAY - just great now we have moved up to multiples per 24 hours -- 21 year syrian arrived last year, known topolice for violent, stabbed to death polish woman , maybe pregnant, train station, 80cm blade. injured two more, run over by car so there. This is mental illiness, So the truth is 4 attacks this week in Germany -is that correct?

Someone who remmebers, I was young, but I remember hearing a l lot about PLO, palestine etc -- was the frequency back then like this??

The man who was killed by the explosion initially survived the blast but later succumbed to his wounds, a police spokesperson cited by weekly German news magazine, Focus. His injuries were consistent with the close detonation of an unknown explosive device, leading authorities to believe that he was the perpetrator.
