Before you criticize someone, you should walk a mile in their shoes. That way, when you criticize them, you're a mile away and you have their shoes.

"When from a long distant past nothing persists, after the people are dead, after things are broken and scattered, still alone, more persistent, more faithful, the smell and taste of things remain poised a long, long time like souls, ready to remind us, waiting, hoping for their moment amid the ruins of all the rest, and bear unfaltering in the tiny and almost impalpable drop of their essence the vast structure of recollection."

I was camping at a festival this weekend, about 10pm it was totally dark when a 12 year old girl went missing. Her family were getting frantic and our group was out with torches helping to look for her, calling her name and checking around tents (in a packed out field). Luckily, she turned up within half an hour and it transpired she'd had an argument with her mum and flounced off, she was hiding a few metres away from camp and heard everyone looking for her. I am surprised you didn't hear the ensuing rollicking from America.

Let's hope that is what has happened here and it's not a Deorr #2.

Wish we knew more. Was she camping with friends? With family? Any arguments? How accustomed is she to being out in nature? Heck, what is her name and description?
    There is always HOPE!!!

Teenage girl missing in woods near Banks

BANKS, Ore. – The search is underway for a 13-year-old girl who is missing in the forest west of Banks.

Emma Beggs was camping with her family when they say she went for a run about 6 p.m. Monday. She has not been seen since.

Explorer scouts with Washington County are working with the sheriff’s office and other searchers to try and locate the missing teen.

If you see her, you are asked to help her and call 911.

Forest for miles is right. I grew up in that same county and am familiar with the location. The area is popular with off-highway vehicle (aka all-terrain vehicle) traffic. Additionally, it is beside Highway 6, a main road from Portland to the coastal towns. There are several logging roads (dirt roads made for timber harvesting operations) through the area that would be better for a run than Hwy 6. Logging roads are a big draw for OHVs, example here http://www.riderplanet-usa.com/atv/t.../ride_c781.htm Some people think the OHV crowd is rowdy.
This is a reddit discussion of the area with good insights: https://www.reddit.com/r/oregon/comm...ok_state_park/
The sun will be up in Oregon now--Let's hope she's found NOW. Nighttime low temp is approx 55F/13C. No rain expected. Gales Creek is a shallow babbling stream, not likely a drown-able location.

Good to have you on the case, Lumberjill! Are you still nearby? (you know where this is leading...)

I'm hoping Emma has fallen and is not badly hurt, just unable to get to help. I'd have thought heat seekers helicopters / drones would have found her by now though.

So she was suppose to go on a 3 mile run. Which if she knew the distance she would have planned the route. The article says she is an avid trail runner. I hope she is found soon and just lost.
