Two teenagers who went missing from the Whitefish Lake First Nation over the weekend have both been found dead, their bodies discovered hours and kilometres apart, police and family members say. Both deaths are being investigated by the RCMP major crimes unit from Edmonton. On Saturday between 7 and 8 p.m., Laboucan was found unconscious outside the trailer where he lived with his girlfriend and her mother, Louis Grey's wife. He lives about two kilometres away. "The guy who found them, I guess he sort of panicked," said [Cory's father] Grey. "He really didn't try to revive him. He didn't want to go inside the trailer, because he thought someone might be inside. "So, he took off and went to go phone from a neighbour's place. So, this took him about 15 to 20 minutes. When he returned back to the scene, Dylan's body was gone. But he'd never seen my girl."

According to the RCMP statement, investigators are now focussed on arresting the person responsible. Police said a “significant amount” of evidence has been collected, and that the crime is not believed to be a random act.

She carried his words in her wallet, his love in her heart.

They dreamed of a future together, a life outside the small, isolated northern Alberta reserve where they grew up and fell in love, a life that included college and good jobs.

The people who knew them best and loved them most say Cory Grey and Dylan Laboucan were inseparable.

Yet when their bodies were found earlier this week, they were kilometres apart.


His body was found Monday on a wellsite about 12 kilometres from the trailer on Whitefish Lake First Nation where the young couple lived with his parents.

Her body was found the next day at another wellsite.

Both had already been accepted at Northern Lakes College in Slave Lake. He planned to study power engineering, and she was going to take early-childhood education.

"They had found a really nice apartment in walking distance to the college," Laboucan's father said. "But they didn't want that on account of they wanted their cat with them. So they found this other apartment that takes cats."

They had already paid the damage deposit and bought pots and pans and plates. They were supposed to move next week.

“This is a small community where people are well known to each other and people who enter the community from outside are also well-recognized when they come in. So it is not a random act. These two victims, Cory and Dylan, were deliberately killed by someone or some people and they were connected with them in some way,” Glavin said, speaking at RCMP headquarters Edmonton.

Glavin said investigators may or may not have specific individuals in mind, and would not specify what the connection is between Cory and Dylan and the person or people who killed them. He said that information is a “key element” in the investigation.

This is so tragic and sad and there is nothing to indicate that these teens were anything but good. And yes dotr, is it not just a little strange that they would each be left at their own wellsite? Who the hell does that s***? Why put the effort and take the risk of transportation to leave these two beautiful young souls at two different locations that are basically the same in structure and purpose? I don't know why but it brings back thoughts of Renee Gunning and Krystle Knott.

Dylan Laboucan was smart and gifted, a polite young man with a smile for everyone. Cory Grey was strong and outgoing, a bigger-than-life young woman who simply would not allow tragedy to shape her destiny.

"They were going to be leaders in their community," said Eddie Sargent, who taught both teens at the reserve school in a tiny community north of Lesser Slave Lake in Alberta. "They were going to find success."

A suspect has been arrested in connection with the shooting deaths of a teen couple on the Whitefish Lake First Nation reserve in northern Alberta, RCMP say.

Police did not give any details about the identity of the person in custody or say anything about charges.

High school sweethearts Dylan Laboucan, 17, and Cory Grey, 19, were weeks away from moving away to attend college when they went missing at the end of July from the trailer where they lived with his parents.

Days later, their bullet-riddled bodies were found, his on one well-site and hers on another a few kilometres away.

RCMP have charged a 19-year-old man from Whitefish Lake First Nation with murder in connection with the killings of Dylan Laboucan and Cory Grey.

Edward Devin Boyce Gladue faces two counts of second-degree murder, RCMP said in a news release Friday.

Police don't think the killings were a random act.

The RCMP is grateful for the assistance which it has received from the people who call the Whitefish Lake First Nation home. Their support and cooperation at this difficult and trying time is of vital importance to the work of the RCMP in the investigation of this traumatic crime.

Police do not believe that there are any other suspects involved in these murders nor do they believe this was a random act.

Edward Gladue is scheduled to appear in provincial court in High Prairie, Alberta on Monday, August 15, 2016.

Thunder (Dylan's mother) said friends of her son have told her Gladue was "obsessed" with Laboucan's girlfriend and was jealous of his success, especially with the couple about to move away to attend college.

"Edward had nothing going for him. He was a dropout," Thunder said.

Thunder said the two boys were longtime friends and cousins who went to school together from a young age.

Gladue grew up just down the street from the Laboucan family on the Whitefish Lake First Nation, north of Slave Lake.

The man charged in the shooting deaths of two Whitefish Lake First Nation teens made his first court appearance on Monday.

Edward Devin Boyce Gladue, 19, faces two counts of second-degree murder in the shooting deaths of Cory Grey and Dylan Laboucan. The case was adjourned until Sept. 19.

Laboucan's mother, Becky Thunder, described a tense scene in the High Prairie courtroom. "He didn't even look at us," she said of Gladue, adding that family members of accused did not make eye contact or speak to the victims' relatives. "They never showed their condolences," Thunder said.
