Dectives on way to cinn

Around 8 p.m. ET, officers responded to a call from the estranged wife of a police officer about domestic violence, he said.
After the initial visit from officers, a special investigations unit detective was sent to do followup work at the scene.
While the detective was at the scene at around 10:30 p.m., the suspect re-emerged at the apartment and started shooting. One of the bullets struck the detective in the elbow.
The detective returned fire, but missed. The suspect then fled the scene in his personal car.
, he was arrested in Cincinnati without further incident.
The suspect has not been formally charged yet, pending extradition to Indiana, said Riddle. His name will be released once that process is complete, he said.
The suspect worked for the Indianapolis police for 18 years and is now suspended without pay pending termination. Indianapolis police said his police vehicle and duty belt have been recovered.
Riddle said he didn’t know if the two officers knew each other before the incident.
The detective, a 20-year veteran with the Indianapolis police, was at a local hospital in good condition. An off-duty Indianapolis police officer shot a fellow officer and fled to Cincinnati, where he was later arrested, according to police.
Both officers — the suspect and the victim — work at the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department, said Maj. Richard Riddle.

Riddle said he didn’t know if the two officers knew each other before the incident.

Many have shared photos of officers serving and interacting with the community.
IMPD is taking that to a new level. The tool Facebook Live, which allows users to broadcast live video, is fairly new to the social media site.

An Indianapolis Police officer is waking up behind bars in Cincinnati, after he allegedly shot a fellow cop and fled the scene.

Adrian Scott Aurs.

The Indianapolis police officer accused of shooting an IMPD detective at his home Friday night has made headlines as a hero – and a criminal – in his 18 years on the force.

IMPD officer who shot detective surrenders on Cincinnati bridge

In 2003, IMPD Officer Adrian Scott Aurs was shot himself in a gunbattle with a suspect.......... Coates had led police on a chase after his ex-girlfriend reported he was shooting her car.
............ the chase ended ........ where Coates climbed onto the roof of a carport and began firing at police.
Aurs was struck in the chest, but was wearing a bulletproof vest ...police returned fire at Coates, striking him in the head. He was pronounced dead .
In 2008, Aurs and several other IMPD officers were hailed as heroes when they pulled a woman from a burning car
behind the headlines:
In May 2005, Aurs pleaded guilty to a charge of drunken driving after rear-ending another car ... temporarily suspended from the force and given one year on probation.
In 2012, Aurs was involved in a fatal crash .......
Aurs' vehicle struck a Lincoln MKZ driven by Williams Wilkins, 78, of Greenwood. Prosecutors said that Wilkins slowed down but didn't stop at a flashing red light and that Aurs had the right-of-way.

Prosecutors declined to charge Aurs for the crash, calling it an "unfortunate accident."
A blood alcohol test showed Aurs had a 0.052 BAC at the time of the crash. – below the legal limit of 0.08.

so...........................with only a "little" booze in him .......with documentd alchol problem...........murders a citizen with his vehicle, citiazen who had been s paying for his cocktails, with taxes....faces no action by his employers?

Evidence from the Lincoln MKZ's black box showed that the Lincoln MKZ never slowed below 14 mph and never made a stop prior to the crash," Deputy Prosecutor Denise Robinson said in a news release. "

We're told an investigator arrived on scene about an hour later for a follow-up interview.
Capt. Richard Riddle, with the IMPD, said that's when Aurs returned to his apartment and opened fire.

A cop begain shooting up his wives home , in front of his kids .

Indianapolis police pinged his cellphone and tracked him to Cincinnati, 100 miles away. Cincinnati's SWAT team was involved in standoff with him on the Brent Spence Bridge shortly before 2 a.m.

Off-duty police officer shoots detective, flees to Ohio

An off-duty Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department officer shot a detective Friday night who was investigating a report of domestic violence involving he and his estranged wife, then fled to Ohio.

The wounded detective, a veteran of the department, police said, was shot at least once in the elbow, and possibly a second time in his side. He is expected to survive his injuries.

At the time of the domestic disturbance, and the shooting that followed, police said, the off-duty officer's two children were inside the apartment. They were not injured.

It was unclear early Saturday morning what exactly happened between the off-duty officer and his wife before police were called, but Riddle said the circumstances were "serious enough of a criminal nature to call in our SIU detectives."

More.

I didn't know detectives investigate domestic violence. I thought it was always uniform cops.

I wonder if it's more to this. Just wondering.

I thought the same thing. Maybe because they knew it involved a member of LE?

eta: Or previous incidents?

Indianapolis police officer arrested in Cincinnati; police say he shot fellow officer

Adrian Scott Aurs, an 18-year Indianapolis police veteran, was caught early Saturday morning along Interstate 75 in Cincinnati, just a mile north of the Kentucky border. He's being held in Cincinnati until he can be extradited to Indiana, said Sgt. Steve Fippen, of the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department.

Indianapolis police pinged his cellphone and tracked him to Cincinnati, 100 miles away. Aurs was involved in an hour-long standoff with Cincinnati's SWAT team on southbound I-75 near the Brent Spence Bridge shortly before 2 a.m. Saturday. Fippen said police recovered a weapon.

IMPD shooting suspect previously hailed as hero

In 2003, IMPD Officer Adrian Scott Aurs was shot himself in a gunbattle with a suspect, 23-year-old Justin B. Coates, on the northeast side. Coates had led police on a chase after his ex-girlfriend reported he was shooting her car.

In 2008, Aurs and several other IMPD officers were hailed as heroes when they pulled a woman from a burning car just moments before it exploded. They were awarded with a Red Cross Lifesaver Award for their efforts.

But then he developed troubles with alcohol (meaning he became an alcoholic?) and:

In May 2005, Aurs pleaded guilty to a charge of drunken driving after rear-ending another car on I-65 near Keystone Avenue. Aurs was temporarily suspended from the force and given one year on probation.
...
In 2012, Aurs was involved in a fatal crash at the intersection of 29th and Harding street.

From 2012:

IMPD tight-lipped about off-duty officer crash

A spokesperson for Metro Police told Eyewitness News they will not answer any questions about a crash at W. 29th Street and North Harding Street that killed a Greenwood man Friday afternoon. Officer Adrian Scott Aurs struck a car driven by 78-year-old William Wilkins, killing Wilkins and injuring his wife.

Some of Aurs' police history includes a 2004 case when prosecutors charged him with DUI after an off-duty crash. In 2003, Aurs survived a shootout, but shot and killed the suspect during a car chase. A year earlier, doctors treated Aurs for lower back injuries after crashing his cruiser during a non-emergency police run.

Eyewitness News also tried to find out if Aurs is back to work, or if he was told to take some time off, but IMPD is staying tight-lipped about that, too.

2003, Aurs shot and killed a suspect, after the suspect shot him in the chest area of his bulletproof vest.

The suspect fired 6 feet away from me. Two .40-caliber round bullets such as this. This the one that struck me dead center in the chest," Aurs said in a previous interview with WTHR.

WTHR also reported Aurs made headlines after his identity, weapons, vest and handcuffs were stolen, leading to a search for the thief.
