.

Independent reports have claimed that the plane was forced to land without its landing gear and the pilot had made an emergency call.

Flights from Heathrow to Dubai have been suspended while the incident is being dealt with.
The fire was full extinguished around 12pm and security crews remain on the scene.

We are expecting a 8-hour network wide delay, Their website

"The slides came out but they were blowing all over the place. People managed to escape - from what I saw - before there was a big explosion, with flames everywhere. We had taxied and stopped right next to where it was happening and people in my plane were just saying 'oh my god' and 'get us off this plane'," she said.
No cause has so far been established for the crash, but images shared on social media suggest a belly landing, which occurs when an aircraft lands without its landing gear fully extended, using its underside to come to a halt.

Passengers were told they were having landing gear problem and would belly land.

Some confusion if the plane tried to do a go around once.

They are an amazing air carrier:

You are king or queen aboard -think Pan Am 1960's!!

The Emirates Group, which is wholly owned by thegovernment of Dubai'sInvestment Corporation of Dubai.[SUP][3][/SUP] It is the largest airline in the Middle East,[SUP][4][/SUP]operating over 3,300 flights per week from its hub atDubai International Airport, to more than 148 cities in 78 countries across six continents.[SUP][5][/SUP]

Emirates is the world’s fourth largest airline by scheduled revenue passenger-kilometers flown,[SUP][

7]
[/SUP] the fourth-largest in terms of international passengers carried,

[SUP][8][/SUP] and the second-largest in terms of freight tonne kilometers flown.

Emirates launched the longest non-stop commercial flight from Dubai to
Auckland on 1 March 2016.

conceived in March 1985 with backing from Dubai's royal family,

with
Pakistan International Airlines providing two of the airline's first aircraft on wet-lease.
Basically, its like leasing a car. Airlines do this if they are trying to start a new route, have several aircraft in heavy mainenance, seasonal demands etc.

There are a couple of types of leases. Basically wet or dry lease. Think cocktails for the wet leases! The airline get the aircraft, crew, etc. There are dry leases where they get the airplane.

It just like renting a car! A hassle. There are variations, some are billed by hours flow, some flat rate, packages are like who pays for fuel, landing fees, baggage handling, cleaning aircraft. A wet lease can also be used to cheat! If an air carrier is prohibited from flying into a country, they can wet lease an aircraft and fly there!

With $10 million in start-up
capital it

Emirates operates a mixed fleet of Airbus and Boeing wide-body aircraft and is one of the few airlines to operate an all-wide-body aircraft fleet.

Emirates has orders for 76
Airbus A380s and is the largest A380 operator

. Emirates also has orders for 150 Boeing 777-X and 36 Boeing 777-300ER aircraft, and is the world's largest Boeing 777 operator.

They have the biggest fleet of the biggest airliner in the world . A380! This was incident was a 777 - but I wanted to give an idea of how awesome they are. A lot of their aircraft are so cool!

Wow to everything - the crash, the survivors, the interior!

Thank you for starting this thread and getting all the info so fast.
Do you think the original trouble started with the landing gear not working or was there something else going on too?
I was thinking the fire may have started as they skidded along the runway.

So thankful that the pilot was able to bring the plane in without crashing and that all the passengers and crew were able to evacuate safely.

Waiting for them to get it together HA! There was something (it was on the background and I did not catch it all) but it sounded as if they tried to do a go around and could not?????

If I got that heard correctly, that has some implications here -- do you think?

I also wonder if they did some circling to burn off fuel but have not heard that have you yet?

It looked like there was no fire at all (hot metal from runway) until evac over and then the fuel tanks igninted - pretty amazing machine huh??

Emirates chairman says Dubai firefighter died while putting out flames from accident - Al Arabiya

Oh my-- starting to sound as if they failed to lower their landing gear, or could not tell quick enough that something was not locked - reports now say they actually touched down , realized gear problem and attmepted a go around, which did not work out as planed.

controllers at Dubai reminded the crew of the Boeing 777 to lower the landing gear as it came into approach.

http://avherald.com/

hard landing in Dubai that brought the world's busiest international airport to a halt.

777-300 delivered to the airline in 2003,

Another man said ....had been a problem with the landing gear.

"It was actually really terrifying. As we were landing there was smoke coming out in the cabin," ....,it was horrifying."

flights would resume at 1830 local, with priority given to larger aircraft.

Shortly afterwards, the crew announced they were aborting the landing to "go around," a routine procedure for which pilots are well trained. But the aircraft came to rest near the end of the runway instead, Aviation Herald reported.

MOO I do not think that can be right - in the middle of attempting a go around the last thing on anyones mind is a passenger briefing!

airline and aircraft have a solid safety record.

first time an aircraft operated by Emirates appears to have been damaged beyond repair since it was founded in the 1980s and is only its third serious safety incident.

Passengers flee burning aircraft (near end of video )

[video=youtube;U-nmbGqXkIs]https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U-nmbGqXkIs[/video]

My husband who is flying now, just saw this and called home to ask if I saw the video. He says that jet fuel is much harder to ignite than regular gasoline, and thought maybe something went wrong with the landing gear? Whatever the cause, the flight crew did a beyond amazing job of getting everyone to safety. This could have been a disastrous loss of human life.

Oh, we'll see, sounds like they still were in air coming in for landing, at some point close to ground they attempted a go around, (moo that will important - did they need to go around cause of mechanical issue, weather , or did pilot not get her configured for landing, realized it, and attempted to abort the landing) .

Wind shear WAS reported at airport (there ya go- first event imo, of sequence of events moo)

Part of that procedure, on go around, is retracting landing gear, that happened, but she could not complete the go around and came back down on the runway. Getting the landing gear up as quick as poss during a go around vital - it reduces drag.

they just got voted the world's top airline several weeks ago

Emirates carried 51.3 million passengers in 2015

has a fleet of over 250 aircraft

footage of the aircraft's intact tail section, where the 'black box' flight recorders are located, vital voice and data recordings should be available for investigators.

here is a go around. When my mother and I would go plane watching at the runways - they actually are breathtaking - if your not on the plane!

In the old days engines were much much louder -more unreal

Turn up the volume - being on a plane during a go around - rather boring until around 2: 55!
