    AK - Bradford Broach, 46, Girdwood, 2 Aug 2016

Troopers continue search for Texan missing on hike at Alyeska Resort

Alaska State Troopers have requested assistance in their search for a Texas man last seen Tuesday night, when he was heading out for a hike near Alyeska Resort in Girdwood.

Troopers got a call from the wife of the missing man, Bradford Broach, 46, of Allen, Texas, on Wednesday, according to a dispatch posted online.

Before you criticize someone, you should walk a mile in their shoes. That way, when you criticize them, you're a mile away and you have their shoes.

"When from a long distant past nothing persists, after the people are dead, after things are broken and scattered, still alone, more persistent, more faithful, the smell and taste of things remain poised a long, long time like souls, ready to remind us, waiting, hoping for their moment amid the ruins of all the rest, and bear unfaltering in the tiny and almost impalpable drop of their essence the vast structure of recollection."

The article said he went out for a hike at around 7:30 or 8 pm. Would that be late for a hike? I need to check on the resort to get a better idea of how remote it is.
I have a lot of questions. He was traveling alone? Was he traveling for business? Was he familiar with the area?

Sunset is about 10:30 in that part of Alaska this time of year.

But, that is the time for animal feeding as well. I hope this guy is safe.

I'm about to sit down to dinner but wanted to say my husband and I have skied at Alyeska and driven around that area and Anchorage, and north to Denali. While Alyeska is a resort town, it is small and remote. Simply gorgeous! Mountains go on forever. An evening hike this time of year would be lovely, plenty of time before it gets dark if you leave around 7:30 pm. But you definitely need to be aware of the wildlife, including grizzlies.

Also, Fairbanks is 400 miles away from Alyeska.

I will check in later with more details about the area.

    AK - Brad Broach, 46, Girdwood, 2 August 2016

Bradford Broach of Allen, TX, was last seen at the Alyeska Resort hotel in Girdwood, Alaska, on August 2. He was hiking the 5-mile Winner Creek trail, and vanished. His rental car and belongings were discovered inat the hotel. He didn't show up for his flight home.

I had a busy week and didn't get back to this case until tonight. I can't believe he is still missing! The latest article I found with a quick search has some more details:

Unless he purposely disappeared, I fear he is no longer alive.

Bumping with updated news from yesterday. He is still missing, but they are scaling back the search. I notice a relative has posted a few times in the comments. I feel so sad for this family. They must feel so helpless.

I have a feeling that the family was able to find out what happened to Brad, even without finding Brad's body. The family was sharing the Missing Brad info for just a few days before they all just stopped. This leads me to believe that they know what happened, and due to this silence, I'm guessing it is thought to be a suicide.

An initial version of this story misstated by a week the dates on which Broach was scheduled to leave Fairbanks and signed the Winner Creek Trail log in Girdwood; they were July 28 and Aug. 2, not Aug. 4 and Aug. 9.
