TAMPA - A Seminole Heights man accused of giving illegal ``date rape'' party drugs to other men and then sexually assaulting them pleaded innocent at his arraignment Wednesday and remains in jail with no bail.
Steven Lorenzo, 45, formerly of 213 W. Powhatan Ave., waived his right to appear in U.S. District Court and the not guilty plea was entered on his behalf.

At the same time, documents show, a seventh alleged victim was added to the list of six men Lorenzo was previously accused of sexually attacking between 2000 and 2003.

``date rape'' depressant known as GHB, or gamma-hydroxybutyric acid

GHB seemed to be a major problem in the Tampa area a few years ago. Our neice was going to start college in the area and we had to continually remind her DO NOT LEAVE YOU DRINK UNATTENED even be careful when holding it as this drug was all too easily being slipped in while the head was turned for just a milla-second.

Steven Lorenzo is being held without bail on federal drug charges related to sexual assualts of 7 gay men. He pleaded not guilty.

The suspects home is being searched in relation to two men, one of whom is missing (Jason Galehouse), and one of whom is dead (Michael Wachholtz)

Galehouse's disappearance or to the killing of Michael Wachholtz, but they would not say whether the search had anything to do with the two men.

Galehouse's mother is insisting she feels he is alive.

The cases of several missing gay men may be examined for connections to men implicated in two 2003 Tampa slayings.

For nearly four years, Bradley Williams' mother waited for a break in the case of her missing son. He was last seen leaving a Tampa bar frequented by Steven Lorenzo and Scott Schweickert, the duo recently implicated in the 2003 murders of two other gay men.

Three weeks ago, authorities called Julie Williams at her Ferrysburg, Mich., home. Investigators in Tampa, awaiting the forensic results of blood-soaked items seized from Lorenzo's Seminole Heights garage, wanted a sample of her DNA.

Bradley Williams is one of several missing gay men whose cases may be examined for a possible connection to Lorenzo and Schweickert.

Katie Nielsen, Son is missing:
"You know your child is not supposed to die before you."

Katie Nielsen fears her son, Mark Thompson, may not be alive. The 32-year-old gay man went out Halloween night in 2001, and hasn't been seen since. When Nielsen reported him missing, she says police told her not to worry.

Katie Nielsen, Son is missing:
"I said, 'You don't understand. This is my gay son. He lives with me. I know everything he does. There is something wrong, I haven't heard from him in two days.'"

A man arrested in connection with a series of gay date rapes has fingered his partner in the killings of two gay Tampa men in December 2003.

Scott Paul Schweickert, 39, of Chicago, was arrested on charges of being an accessory after the fact in a drug-facilitated crime of violence. He waived a detention hearing and remains in custody.

If convicted he could face 10 years in prison.

But, a written statement by Schweickert, could help solve the mystery of who killed Michael Wachholtz and Jason Galehouse.

The statement, contained in a federal criminal complaint filed Friday, claims that the man accused of helping Schweickert in the date rapes was responsible for the murders.

Police are investigating whether two men suspected of raping and killing gay men in the Tampa area are also responsible for three disappearances in Fort Lauderdale.

One of the suspects, Steven Lorenzo, 46, of Tampa owns a condo across the street from the Drake Tower Condominium, where three gay men have gone missing since 1988. The other, Scott Schweickert, 39, confessed to raping and killing two men picked up at a Tampa bar, according to a federal affidavit.

Neither Lorenzo nor Schweickert has been charged with any killings, although both are in jail. Lorenzo faces seven counts of "drug facilitated crimes of violence," and Schweickert is charged with being an accessory after the fact. Their lawyers could not be reached for comment.

A police probe of two men suspected of killing gays in Tampa and Chicago has been widened to include the disappearances of three gay men in Fort Lauderdale.

Now, police in Fort Lauderdale want to know if the pair is involved in the disappearances of three men who lived in a building across the street from a condo owned by Lorenzo.

The three gay men have been missing since 1988. They all lived in Fort Lauderdale's Drake Tower. In June 1988, residents Barry A. Block and David George Rhodes, who lived together, vanished. On June 27, 2004 another Drake Tower resident, Mark Jackson, disappeared

A search by Tampa police of Lorenzo's home found a computer along with restraints, photographs of one of the dead Tampa men, pictures of 20 other men in various states of bondage, and Internet chats between him and Schweickert. Officials also found an envelope filled with news clippings about a number of dead or missing men.

Police also say that authorities in several other states where gay men have disappeared have expressed interest in the case.

Fort Lauderdale police say that Lorenzo did not live in the condo, but rented it out. Nevertheless, they say that there are uncanny similarities between all the crimes.

More federal drug charges have been added to the list already levied against Steven Lorenzo and Scott Schweickert, who are suspected of commiting violent crimes against young men in Tampa.

Federal prosecutors added one more drug charge against Schweickert, 40, and four more drug charges against Lorenzo, 46.

Both are accused of possessing and distributing the date-rape drug gamma-hydroxybutyric acid (GHB; also known as "Liquid Ecstasy") to incapacitate and rape young men in 2003 and 2004. Authorities also say Schweickert helped Lorenzo cover up the alleged crimes.

Both also are suspects in the December 2003 murders of Tampa residents Jason Galehouse and Michael Wachholtz. Neither Lorenzo nor Schweickert have yet to be charged with a violent crime in state court.

A man on trial in federal court had photos on his computer of one of the men he drugged, raped and killed, and DNA from another victim was found in his house, prosecutors said.

Opening statements began Wednesday in the trial of Steven Lorenzo, 46. He is charged with drugging seven young men, rendering them unconscious, so he could subdue, torture and sexually violate them.
While Lorenzo has not been charged with murder, prosecutor Anthony Porcelli told the jury that he will present evidence implicating Lorenzo and Scott Schweickert of Chicago in the December 2003 murders of Jason Galehouse, 26, of Sarasota, and Michael Wachholtz, 26, of Tampa.

Schweickert will face a federal trial later, and state officials say they are preparing a murder case against the men.

Florida is riveted to the sensational trial of a Tampa man accused of plying gay men with the date rape drug GHB and then sexually assaulting them amid further allegations he is implicated in a series of gay murders.

The trial of Steven Lorenzo, 46, has been shown pictures of S&M gay sex, videos, samples of the drug, and teased with speculation about the killings of two other victims for which he is not charged.

Lorenzo is on trial for the date rapes of seven young gay men.

The evidence shown to jurors in federal court was seized from Lorenzo’s Tampa home in June of 2004. It includes graphic pictures and videos of Lorenzo having sex with several of the victims. The men are shown tied up on Lorenzo's bed and were taken at various times.

The prosecution says it will present testimony from an associate of Lorenzo, Scott Schweickert, who also is facing trial on date rape charges. Schweickert has implicated Lorenzo in the murders of two other gay men.

Police say that authorities in several other states where gay men have disappeared and where Schweickert have lived or visited have expressed interest in the case.

Police say they are continuing to investigate Lorenzo in connection with the murders and charges could be filed soon.

A lead investigator in the case against Steven Lorenzo says up to five men Lorenzo is accused of drugging and abusing could be dead.

Tampa Police Detective Charles Massucci testified last week about thousands of digital images found on Lorenzo's computer that show men bound in sexually explicit positions. Investigators say two of the victims -- Jason Galehouse and Michael Wachholtz -- were killed. Now, Massucci says up to three others may have been killed as well.

While investigators do not know the identity of the three other possible victims, Massucci referred to them as "Bobby," "Karl" and "Atlanta 10," the same names Lorenzo used to label their photos.

A Tampa man was found guilty Thursday in federal court of nine counts of drugging young men to rape and torture them.

Two of the victims of Steven Lorenzo ended up dead, and he is likely to face murder charges in state court later.

The jury deliberated about three hours over two days before finding Lorenzo, 46, guilty of slipping the date rape drug, GHB, into the drinks of all nine victims and then sexually torturing them at his home.

Michael Wachholtz and Jason Galehouse, both 26, were killed. The other seven victims all testified about meeting Lorenzo at bars and either losing track of their drinks or having Lorenzo serve them drinks before they lost consciousness.

I've always wondered if he played a part in the disappearance of Mark Jackson.

On Friday morning in federal court, Lorenzo received a 200-year prison sentence for drugging and raping nine men.

One of them is dead; another is missing and presumed dead.

The article is about the father of Mark Thompson. He believes his son is another victim, but his son has not been officially added to the victim list.

Mark Thompson disappeared October 31 2001, Halloween, in Clearwater, Florida. He has not been found.

Excerpt from the article:

On Halloween night 2001, Thompson's son Mark left a Clearwater apartment to visit area bars. Friends and family have heard nothing from the 30-year-old since. Days later, his Ford Ranger pickup was found about 10 blocks from Lorenzo's Seminole Heights home. Thompson was known to frequent the same Tampa gay bar where Lorenzo met some of his victims.

TAMPA, Fla. -- An Illinois man who prosecutors say was an accomplice in the drugging and sexual torture of nine young men is mentally incompetent to stand trial, a judge ruled Wednesday.

TAMPA - Investigators didn't know what really happened to Jason Galehouse and Michael Wachholtz, but they were pretty sure the man they were questioning could give them the information they needed to crack the case.

At first, Scott Schweickert denied he was even in Tampa the weekend of Dec. 19 and 20, 2003, when the two men vanished. But then the detectives told him Steven Lorenzo said he was here.

He then admitted he met Lorenzo at 2606, the nightclub where Galehouse and Wachholtz were last seen alive that weekend. But Schweickert said he left the bar and went home to Orlando.

Then investigators showed him a transcript of an online chat in which Schweickert asked Lorenzo for directions to his house. Then Schweickert said Lorenzo had picked up a "chubby kid" at 2606 and that the three of them went to Lorenzo's house for some "vanilla sex." Schweickert said he went to the bathroom and came out to find Lorenzo holding the victim in a sleeper hold until he went limp.

The evolving stories Schweickert told investigators were presented to jurors by Drug Enforcement Administration Agent Scott A. Albrecht on Thursday in Schweickert's federal drug trial. Schweickert, 41, faces up to 60 years in prison if convicted of conspiring with Lorenzo and giving the drug GHB to the victims for the purpose of committing a crime of violence
