Aaron Driver, suspect in connection with terror threat, dead
'Credible information' received of a potential terrorist threat, agency says
http://www.cp24.com/news/suspect-dead-following-anti-terrorism-operation-in-strathroy-1.3023809
According to an internal government memo obtained by CTV News, the suspect allegedly planned to use an IED to carry out a suicide bombing mission in a public area. His alleged plan, according to the document, was to create mass casualties.

Officials feared that the plot could’ve been carried out on Wednesday during rush hour in a busy location.

The RCMP has not said what city was allegedly targeted. Security officials say there is no longer a threat to national security.

Driver was well known to police and intelligence officials. He was known for tweeting his support of ISIS, and he applauded the 2014 attack on Parliament Hill and encouraged ISIS to target Canadian military and police.

This is kind of an unusual type of terror threat. But it seems to be a sign of our times:

CPD WARNS OF THREAT AGAINST OFFICERS BY WEST SIDE GANGS

Tuesday, August 09, 2016 01:17PM
CHICAGO (WLS) -- Chicago police officers are being warned about a security threat involving possible attacks by gangs on the city's West Side.

ABC7 has obtained a warning that the department sent out to every police officer on Friday.

The warning described a summit between senior West Side gang members in which they "agreed to use automatic weapons against Chicago police officers." The alert also said one gang provided guns and placed a sniper at an unknown location.

"What you're going to do is see officers backing each other up. They've been riding two deep ever since we've had incidents in Dallas and Louisiana," said Fraternal Order of Police President Dean Angelo.

Imo. This is nonsense.

Because every summer. Chicago pd expects the murder rate to go up on residential murders.

But they rarely enforce any new things.

But now they want to act like the gangs are gunning for cops so something has to be done for blue lives.

Wth.

Maybe instead of the cops focusing on them getting killed.

Maybe they should focus on the 100s of kids under the age of 17 that has been killed while cases are still only classified as unsolved or gang related. Jmo.

Because 10year olds are getting killed very rapidly out there.

But the cops now want to worry about their own safety.

Wth.

THE REAL FACES OF ISIS

In a prison in northern Iraq, captured ISIS soldiers discuss their crimes and what drove them to their murderous ideology

In an exchange with a Maclean’s reporter about the modus operandi of the dreaded ISIS, he reveals the basics:

“Why so much bloodlust, why so much killing?” he is asked.

“If you are not Muslim, I must kill you,” he replies.

“Why? I’m not from here. I don’t know you. Why should I have to be like you?”

“What is your religion?” he responds.

“I don’t have one.”

Mahmoud—silence—then this: he carefully draws his hand across his throat.

When Luqman Salih Mohammed, 29, showed remorse for the crimes for which he was sentenced to 15 years and said, “May God revenge and destroy ISIS,” the guard said, “Don’t kid yourself; these men would rape you and behead you in a second. They’re all animals.”

Very interesting & scary background information.
These jihadists have been caught.
Others are still out and about, and returning to Europe posing as refugees.

Police in Thailand look for suspects after bombs hit tourist sites
BANGKOK -- Police in Thailand said Saturday that they were hoping to identify suspects over the next couple of days in a series of bombing and arson attacks that struck several tourist towns, killing four people and wounding dozens, including 11 foreigners.

The attacks, which hit Thursday and Friday, came days after a referendum was held in which Thais approved a new constitution that critics say will bolster the power of the military, which has ruled the country since a May 2014 coup, for years to come. Thai authorities have suggested there were political motives behind the violence, but named no specific suspects. No one has claimed responsibility for any of the 11 bombings.

Britain has been warned of a rising threat of terror from Islamic State fighters after it was revealed more and more are using fake passports to enter the country.

Earlier this week it was revealed that ISIS has been distributing fake passports in Greek refugee camps to allow its terrorists to travel within Europe on 'clean' identity documents.

Now, Europol's director Rob Wainwright has told the Evening Standard the terror group has taken a 'strategic decision' to send fanatics to attack the continent, in the hope of distracting attention from the fighting on its own soil.

"A ‘fanatical and radicalised’ female terrorist suspect was gunned down by French police tonight after stabbing an officer during a police special forces raid.

She was said to be planning an ‘imminent attack’ before being shot in the head in Boussy-Saint-Antoine, in the Essonne department, south of Paris."

"Anti-terror police in London have foiled a suspected ISIS plot to launch a Paris-style marauding attack on the streets of Britain after arresting two men, who are believed to be brothers.

MailOnline understands that the threat could have been to attack several sites across the UK - not a lone-wolf attack.

Counter terror officers launched an early morning raid and swooped on the pair in west London, arresting both on suspicion of being involved in the 'preparation of terrorist acts'."

Alabama teen found not guilty of terrorism charge

An Alabama teen has been found not guilty after he was accused of trying to aid terrorists.

Al.com reports that Peyton Pruitt of St. Clair County was found not guilty Thursday by reason of mental defect. His lawyers say the 19-year-old Pruitt will undergo another mental evaluation at a mental facility.

Last year, Pruitt was arrested and charged with soliciting support for a terrorist act. Court records state that Pruitt tried to steer resources worth less than $1,000 to terrorism.

St. Clair teen with IQ of 51 found not guilty of soliciting terrorist act

20900208-small.jpg

A St. Clair County teenager accused of soliciting support for a terrorist act was found not guilty by reason of mental defect in court this morning.

Lawyers for Peyton Jack Pruitt, 19, of Wattsville, say he will undergo another mental evaluation with Tuscaloosa's Taylor Hardin Secure Mental Facility before a final decision is made on his disposition.

Pruitt was arrested Nov. 13, 2015, charged with soliciting support for a terrorist act.

At a December hearing, witnesses described Pruitt as a "child" - a teenager with an IQ in the 50s who cannot tie his own shoes, soils his clothes, has little verbal skills and lacks the ability to distinguish reality from fantasy.

Yet a St. Clair County investigator then testified that the FBI determined Pruitt used the Internet to communicate with what he believed were representatives of the Islamic State and the Pakistani Taliban, and that he told an FBI agent that he provided links to encrypted information on car bombs, pressure cooker bombs and suggested high value targets for acts of terrorism.

A May mental evaluation found Pruitt has a mental defect and is "not a danger to himself or the community."

James Gallini, Pruitt's attorney, said he is pleased with the verdict. If found guilty, Pruitt could have faced 10 years in prison.

"Of course, his evaluation earlier this year showed he has a mental defect, so we're appreciative to the district attorney for not challenging those results," Gallini said. "We agree that Peyton poses not risk to himself or the community at large, and we're confident another evaluation will show this."

<SNIP>

"Did Peyton do wrong? Yes. Did he understand his actions? No," the statement reads. "He has been deemed completely safe and is in no danger to himself or anyone else. Peyton is harmless."

In the statement, the family asks Peyton be given "a second chance at life" after "a truly devastating ordeal."

"It is important to the family for the general public to please try and understand that Peyton is a disabled boy who went through a time of confusion and is of no risk to public safety," it reads. "We apologize for what has happened to the concerned citizens of Alabama and St. Clair County."

She was not shot in the head (unfortunately). She is in hospital with gun shot wounds to the leg or legs.
This is in answer to Greg's post about the french woman

"Two teenage girls from the French city of Nice are being held on suspicion of planning an attack directed by a notorious Syria-based French jihadist, a source close to the investigation said Sunday.

The suspects, aged 17 and 19, live in the same area of Nice as Mohamed Lahouaiej Bouhlel, the radicalised Tunisian man who drove the truck that killed 86 people in the city on July 14.

Searches failed to find any weapons at their homes."
