They believe she took Liliea and may be heading to Tuba City to find the child's father.

The pair was last seen leaving Chambers, Arizona on foot. The last sign of the mother and child were footprints heading in to a wash, police said.

Per google maps Pine Springs AZ to Tuba City AZ is 154 miles and would take approximately 50 hours on foot through the dessert.

Maybe someone with more knowledge can explain the quote about footprints heading in to a wash.

UPDATE AMBER: Adding photo of the child. The family returned home in Pine Springs, Arizona to find the child and the mother missing. The mother's purse and their coats were still at the house. The mother is mentally disabled and has a speech delay. They left on foot and may be traveling to Tuba City to contact the father.

I know a wash is the dry bed of a stream. Not sure if this area has received any precipitation lately or is slated to.

I know it's been ages since this was relevant, but I have ties to the family involved.

Ledwina was living with her sister and her sister's husband, along with her daughters. The older daughters and their mother would take care of the younger girls during the day when the other adults were working.

Ledwina has a history of mental illness and left the house with Lilliea without any preparation, no food or water or anything else. They took a back road to a highway and were found the next morning trying to hitchhike to Tuba City

My in laws now have full custody of the girls, and their mother is in a protective environment in Phoenix. (Not an asylum.) The girls are thriving. They were delayed both developmentally and socially when taken in by their aunt and uncle, but have made leaps and bounds in becoming strong young women.

I have so much respect for their Aunt and Uncle, who had just had their kids leave the nest, and took in five special needs girls out of the blue. They are the best people I've ever met.
