IL Activist Indicted on Assaulting Police Charges

What are the charges Jamal Green was indicted on?

The Chicago activist faces seven charges, including five felonies, stemming from a run-in with police over the weekend during a Black Lives Matter rally.

Green was charged with attempting to disarm an officer, two counts of aggravated battery of a peace officer and two counts of aggravated battery in a public place, all felonies. He was also charged with two misdemeanor counts of resisting or obstructing an officer.

The apple doesn't fall far from the tree:

BBM. Hopefully none of the felonies are pleaded down. Five felonies will ensure his time behind bars for 10-20 years, at least. Even if he only got 5 years per felony (low side of sentencing, without any aggravating factors, and not including the misdemeanors), he's looking at 20 years in prison. But he has aggravating factors attached, so he's looking at substantially more time. So I'd be please if he gets 30 or more years. He needs to be locked up and off the streets, away from society, IMO.

I'm very disturbed that he's out on bail-- worried about what kind of violence he might plan and carry out, or incite others to do. I don't think he should have been given bail.

Anyway, he should enjoy his "freedom", because he's got a long prison sentence ahead of him. No way will he be found not guilty of all the charges.

Sentencing guidelines for Illinois: (Likely that the 5 felonies he's indicted with are Class 2 and 3 felonies, since a police officer is involved, and police officer's weapon belt)

Cook County Judge Peggy Chiampas came down hard on Green ruling he has every right to peacefully protest anything he wants to but when he struck the officer he crossed the line.

Prosecutors also referenced Green's Facebook posts in the aftermath of the fatal police shootings of a black man in Minnesota and another in Louisiana that talked about the killing of five Dallas police officers

Green posted he doesn't condone the killings of those officers but he does understand it.

Green will placed on home confinement and cannot go on social media.

So, his appearance at the microphone with his attorney was part of his "allowed" time away from home confinement, since he had a court appearance for his indictment. I hope the judge takes note of that. He should not have been permitted to appear with ELEVEN of his "supporters" in that news conference. His attorney could have (and should have, IMO) spoken without him.

Hopefully, this criminal will violate his bail, and return to jail until his trial.
