Officials still not commenting on remains found last summer

Although The Herald received an obituary for a missing Sharon man on Wednesday, law enforcement officials will not confirm or deny that he is the man found in a shallow grave in August in Shenango Township.

The obituary of Joseph C. DiFrischia, 59, of Sharon, on page A-5, simply reads that he died in Mercer County.

Hermick [lead investigator] stressed at the press conference that there had not been a positive identification made but he also confirmed Sharon police are part of the investigation because that department had an active investigation into the disappearance of DiFrischia.

DiFrischia was last seen April 28 on his way to visit a friend on Sharons south side, Sharon police have said.

Christopher L. Shelatree Sr., 41, of the State Correctional Institution in Findley Township, was charged last week with burglary, theft, receiving stolen property and criminal trespass...

Police said they developed physical and testimony evidence linking Shelatree to the burglary while they were investigating the discovery of human remains Aug. 9... The human remains later were identified as belonging to Joseph C. DiFrischia, 58, who was last seen April 28 on his way to visit a friend in Sharon, police said.

Shelatree has not been charged with any crimes related to DiFrischia’s death.

Suspect now charged...

"State Police say 42-year-old Christopher Shelatree was arraigned Monday for the killing of 49-year-old Joseph DiFrischia.

Authorities say they believe DiFrischia’s body was buried on private property along Mercer-West Middlesex Road in Shenango Township several months before it was discovered in August 2016."
