On that date he was placed on supervision for a period of 3 years.

His most recent stint in prison was on a 3rd degree felony Robbery charge out of Franklin County. He received a 3 year sentence for that offense.
He entered ODCR on 5-20-2013.
His Actual Release Date (prison term imposed by the sentencing judge) was 7-28-2016.

He became eligible for early release on 9-18-15. He either did not apply or was rejected.
The Chillicothe Gazette provided additional information on his criminal history:
Hanes pleaded guilty to indictment charges of involuntary manslaughter, aggravated burglary and aggravated robbery at age 16, according to Franklin County Common Pleas Court records. The case was bound over from juvenile court in 1995, and charges of aggravated murder, kidnapping and unlawful possession of a dangerous ordnance were dropped against him. The details of that case were not immediately known.
He was in prison until he was 32 years old.
Four years later, in 2014, Hanes was back in court. He pleaded guilty to a charge of aggravated robbery and was sentenced to three years in prison with three years of mandatory post-release control. As a result of the plea deal, the second charge of robbery was dropped against him.

No motive has been made public for the murder of Ted Timmons.
Due to the nature of the charges against Kuhn and the criminal histories of Hanes and Nelson, I am inclined to think it was a robbery. MOO.
