Canyon County coroner Vicki DeGeus said investigators have an idea who the man in the water is, but his ID likely will not be confirmed until Thursday night or Friday. An autopsy will be conducted Friday, she said.
As of 5 p.m., DeGeus said, the body had not been removed from the water. The cause and manner of the death have not been determined.
Ross and Michelle Lackman, another organizer of the Facebook page Finding Christian, believe the man found in the water is their friend. Ross said Lepe was reportedly upset Saturday night/ early Sunday because of a dispute earlier in the day; she believes he accidentally fell into the water.
I think I knew from the very beginning what the outcome would be, she said.
Lepe did not live in the subdivision where he left his car. Ross said a police officer at the scene to impound the car discovered the body. She was notified of the body's discovery at 2:36 p.m. because she was listed as a contact for the missing man, she said.
Idaho State Police are investigating, DeGeus said.
Lepe worked from home in computer security, Ross said. She was too distraught Thursday afternoon to talk about her friend besides describing him as a good friend and loving father to his daughter, who is about 9 years old.
He grew up in the San Diego area, she said. If the body is confirmed as Lepe it will be returned to his family in San Diego.
